    translating using tr command in Unix???

    I want to translate a field values in a database table. I use Oracle database on Unix. Could some one tell me how use tr command in my sql scripts to encrypt the filed?? Or is there any better or easy way of transalating it? Thanks in advance. Syam Sagar
