We have had some problems with our PDC and we had to have the server taken off site for exchange to be repaired.
In the meantime I have a BDC running but no one can logon in to the domain or look at the BDC. Is it simply a case of electing the BDC to PDC and I can get people logging in?
How do...
I encountered a problem this morning where exchange had run out of disk space and could not mount the stores.
I used eseutil to check the consistency and it came back as inconsistent, further to this I repaired the database and then had to delete the e00.log to mount the stores.
Since then...
I have been having problems with 1 mailbox for some time.

I am having a problem with one individual mail box.
Basically I have deleted the mailbox and recreated it, this seemed to work and I sent a test message to the mail box after dismounting the mailstore and remounting.
One of my colleagues then tried to send a mail to the mail box and the user...
I've just been reading some documentation for installing software with 'act as part of operating system privileges' and it refers to the user manager in Windows 2000 to apply relevant policies.
My problem is that the machine I am using is a domain controller and as such when I fire the user...
I've read quite a few messages about this, but I am still struggling.
Basically I am wanting to set up a catch all e-mail address, which will forward on to the administrator.
Our mail is routed through an ISP providing it has the correct domain suffix (e.g default.com), we then log on and pick...
Looking at our backup files, it appears that individual exchange mailboxes are not being backed up.
I have tried connecting to each mail box through explorer, but I get "access is denied" pop up errors messages.
Does anyone know where the rights to exchange are assigned?
I am having quite a few problems with our Win2K server running Exchange at the moment.

Ok I was wondering if anyone can help me with this problem.
Basically we have a server which acted as a file/print/email server. Since then we have got another server to take over the file/print sharing.

I am currently trying to open an excel document from the server.
When I try and open the document, it is read only. When I try and copy it, I get the following error:

This file has recently been copied over from another Win2K...

At the moment we are having alot of problems with users being able to browse the network, and save files in any old directory on the server.
Not ideal, but this is something I have inherited.
I have set up login scripts to map to shares, and this seems to have alleviated the problem somewhat...
Can anyone help me out with a little rountine.
I have an excel spreadsheet with hard coded links e.g \\server1\drawing\1.pdf
I need to replace all instances of server1, with server2. Any ideas how to do this. I have tried using the find and replace but it doesn't seem to work with hyperlinks.
Ok I've posted a few messages over the past couple of days, and managed to overcome most of my problems.
Ok heres the set up, we have an existing server which is the domain controller. I am trying to introduce a second server to act as a file server and backup domain controller.
On the new...
I have 3 XP Pro machines on our network. All the machines seem slow to login in to the domain - normally around 2 - 3 minutes in total.
Does anyone know of any underlying setting which could be changed to overcome this?
I am currently trying to bring another server in to the domain and thus make this the BDC.
This is the procedure I am carrying out to do so:
Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Configure Your Server
Once in the Configure Your Server program I execute the following go through and add an...
I have built a new server and am planning on bringing it in to the domain.

I have a Win2K Server, and a mixture of windows platforms (98, Win2K, XP).
I have a specific problem with a couple of Win98 machines which seem to drop their network connection occasionally. From what I can tell it seems to be when the machines have been left for a length of time - maybe 15...
I am having problems with one of our servers backing up, I think the tape drive has gone.
Anyhow to overcome this problem I have tried to backup the server over the network. Everything seems to set up fine but when I come in, in the morning the backup does not appear to have ran.
