I just wrote a blog post about buying an upgrade to Crystal Reports 2016 from the SAP online store. I was able to complete the purchase and was sent a download link, but I still haven't been sent an install key so I don't really know if the process works. Anyone else successfully purchase CR...
Using Pervasive SQL, through ODBC and CR 2008.
I tapped into the system tables of the database to create a report that lists all the fields available in each table. That was easy. I was hoping to do the same thing for the 700 views in the database but ran into a brick wall. What I need is...
I just had a potential student ask the following question:
>> the rumor I hear from other I.T. people is that the
>> long term health of crystal is suspect and
>> that its future is short for this technical world ...
Here is how I responded:

I am probably not the...
Up until mid-May you could purchase several older versions of Crystal Reports - going back to v8.5. Now, nothing is available except CR 2008 and CR 2011. There was no official announcement or explanation and the only hint I have so far is that it is related to an issue with open-source...
Is anyone still using dot-matrix printers with the current versions of CR? I have a customer who needs to hit pin-fed, multi-part forms and I don't remember when I last did pin-fed forms. Anyone know how well this works or what the issues will be?

For those of you who insist on the latest and greatest, CR 2011 is now available. I haven't tried it yet, but will be looking at it this month for my May newsletter - reviewing all the new features (all 3 of them)...
Crystal Reports 2008.
I have seen this behavior now at 3 different clients. What happens is that one or several reports lose the cancel button on the parameter screen. When this happens the corner "x" for closing the window is also disabled and the escape key won't close the window either...
After applying SP3 to CR 2008 I found that I couldn't get dynamic parameters to work. I rolled back to SP2 and dynamic parameters started to work again.
I am on Win7 64bit so that could be an issue. But I had a similar problem trying to save certain reports with data. If they had parameters...
I have had to back down to SP2 because of 2 problems:
1) If I try to re-save a report that has saved data, I will sometimes be required to re-enter parameters that already have current values. If I don't it won't save the report with data. If the database connection isn't available to me (like...
I have started looking for (and finding) information about Crystal Reports 2011, which is scheduled for Q2 2011. I have put together an article with some links here:

I don't see many major changes in features but there are a few nice minor changes...
Using CR 2008 standalone, no programming.
Has anyone successfully created a report in the Crystal Reports designer that can preview data from an XML file while applying the correct data types from an XSD file?
Crystal can read the XML file and see data but all the data types come through as...
I just noticed this for the first time. It appears that some versions of Crystal change the case of the file name to all lower case when you export to PDF. I have seen this in v10 and in v11 but in v12 a mixed case file name is kept in mixed case.
Anyone know of an option or registry key to...
Versions 10 and 11, MS Access ODBC using a command. All running on Vista.
I inserted a subreport into a blank container report that has nothing in it but parameter fields (no tables or data fields).
When I preview, the subreport appears empty.
If I click on the subreport it runs - as if it...
Business Objects has a new version of Crystal Reports ready for release called Crystal Reports 2008. They are planning on announcing it at the Insight Americas conference in mid - October. So far there is no public mention of this product that I can find except for one page that I am sure is...
CR XI, Xtreme sample database:
I created a report using a command with one parameter. I then added a normal table to the report. The table is not linked to the command and none of it's fields are used in the report. I then changed the parameter (through the report parameter screen) to be...
There is a recent Article on the BO website that explains how to pass a multi-value parameter to a stored procedure. Thought this would be a neat trick so I tried it. The parameter values get combined correctly (into a single long string) but the SP doesn't seem to know what to do with that...
I am trying to send a "UNION" SQL statement from Crystal Reports through ODBC to some VFP tables. The statements seem to work fine independently but when I try to UNION them using a Crystal command I lose records. Below is the statement:
SELECT
`sllines`.`item` as item,
`sllines`.`needby`...
I got a stumper from a user today.
Go into Crystal v10 and open the formula editor. There is a small tool-bar panel for the buttons named "Save" / "Save and Close". If you double click on the left edge of this panel you can undock it, which gives you a separate window with a small 'x' in...
I spent an hour today trying to find an ODBC driver that will allow me to link an XML data file to an MS Access database for a single workstation. The only driver I can find is from DataDirect. And, I can only find it in a 5-pack for over $600.
Does anyone else produce an inexpensive ODBC...
Crystal Reports XI was made available for purchase this morning. I am trying the download and it looks like I have 5.5 hours to wait.
