I work in an educational establishment in the UK and we're currently undergoing a numbers reduction.
For the staff who leave/have left I've got a specific issue and I'm not sure of the position.
All users have data stored on a file server and email accounts.
Now I've been asked to allow...
At the school where I work the staff can log on to machines that the kids use and their own laptop.
Problem is that some of them forget they have logged on and leave the machine open with the obvious security issue.
I applied GP for screen saver to the Staff OU and this worked fine except when...
Until recently in the school where I work we have been using Office XP. Last summer break we have upgraded to Office 2003. We now have a problem.
New students are not given access to the internet until they sign a proper usage form and existing users get banned from the internet if they use it...
Today was a bit of a toil.
Installing some software on the server that would be accessed by clients via a mapped drive. Everything seemed to go correctly, Win 2000 client no problem, Win XP drive was not available (same user). Same group policy is being applied to all machines on the domain and...
OK at the school where I work we have Realplayer installed for some media files. Only problem is that the little darlings have found that if they access web sites through Mediaplayer they can bypass the internet blocks.
So I want to be able to give them the use of Realplayer to play media...
I would like the media label to be erased at start of backup so that the label changes to the date of the backup.
Is there a way to have this done automatically or will I have to do this manually?
I've a piece of software in use at the school that requires a mapped drive with full control for the users (for licensing). Problem is the pupils are messing about and creating files in the directory.
Is there any way to map a drive but not have it shown in My Computer. I've tried hiding the...
I've a user with a laptop that when connects to internet with IE6 refuses to browse more that 2/3 sites. After that it just does nothing. Closing IE and stating again same thing.
A quick try with Firefox and all is OK.
I've tried all I can think of, anyone any suggestions?
Laptop is running...
Couldn't find a forum suitable for this so as I'm using Win 2000 I'll post it here.
Looking for some help as I can't sort this one out. I've recently installed wireless ADSL router and connected my desktop by cable to one of the ports. Now I can't get Media player to work.
I'm trying to play a...
I'm sure someone must have done this. I've just set up a new machine for someone and it uses Outlook. Their old machine has OE6 and they would like their stored messages and contacts moved to the new machine.
Of course Express doesn't have PST files so how do you move messages?
Contacts...
OK I've done this before and can't remember how to stop the panel popping up on the server when a print fails on one of the network printers.
I know as soon as someone tells me it will be a doh moment.
OK refubing some PC's and new mobos have the 4 pin AXX12V connection. Unfortuantely the PSU doesn't need a cable that converts molex to ATX12V like this:
http://www.abccables.com/cb-psci-2v.html
But need supplier in UK. Anyone know of a supplier as I'm not having much luck finding one at the...
In the school where I work the various computer suites are arranged into logical OU's. I have been asked if its possible to deny internet access to individual suites on a per lesson basis (i.e. only deney access to maybe one suite and leave the others active).
My first thought was through group...
OK, at the school where I work all the students (1700) have a folder that is only accesable to them and administrators. Whoever originally set up the folders should have added the teaching staff to the permissions.
Now I want to add the staff group to the permissions however I can't to seem to...
OK I know that setting dummy proxy settings can block access.
I work in a school and sometimes the lecturer requests that internet access is blocked for a particular lesson. Our machine are arranged in OU's for each computer suire.
Is there any easy way to do this on the fly so that I can...
At the school where I work there are 2 seperate domains one for admin and the other for the pupils with no trust relationships (seems the idea was to keep both seperate for security reasons).
Problem is that staff need to have seperate accounts on both domains (bit of a nightmare for network...
OK, I've been asked to install some software on approx 200 clients (mix of XP and 2000).
Obviously the best way to do this would seem to be a network install.
Presumably using an MSI files is the best way to do this.
I've never done this before, are there any third party apps to make the...
