I am running SuSE 8 and am trying to get this linux box to access the internet through my dsl account. My WIN98 box finds it no problem (using EnterNet300).
Here is the setup:
The DSL modem is connected to the internet and the other end is connected to my hub through the uplink port.
My 2...
I have just discovered mozilla (ver 1.1) and am in the process of trying to get it to work. So far Ive managed to get the email & newsgroups working but can not find where I can set up the dial up number. I'm having to use ie to dial in, then open mozilla and close ie. The help files list...
Im new to this forum. Haven't used SQL Server for a couple of years (been working with MySQL mostly). Anyways, looks like Im going to be learning SQL Server 2000. Is there a big difference between ver 7 and 2000? I've looked at MS's site and haven't seen too much difference (not real differences...
I'm trying to write a short script that can run under windows (linux later) that will automate my backuping (if that's a word).
I can copy a file but how do I copy a directory AND all the files it contains? Can this be done? Thanks.

I made a copy of my cookies folder and even though I have renamed it and tried changing its attributes, I can not delete the copy. It denies me access. Also the system checkbox under attributes is grayed out. Is there any way to delete this folder?
Thanks.

What I want to accomplish is this:
switch ($id)
{
case 1:
blah;
break;
case 2:
blah blah;
break;
case (($id > 3)&&($id < 9)):
blah blah blah;
break;
default:
sigh;
break;
}
So if $id = 1 then blah code is executed, if $id=2 then blah blah...
I am trying to build a cd based backup program in ruby. The idea is simple. I have a hard coded list of critical files I want backedup. A new backup directory is created each day using some name (e.g. Backup) along with the date and the critical files are copied to this directory.
I then enter...

I am fairly new to Linux, running SuSE 7.1, and am trying to install the proftpd server. It told me I needed a new glibc so I got that. When I tried to install that rpm it told me I couldn't because a whole list of other packages depend on the old version of so.6 or whatever and this is trying...
Hi. I've posted this problem on several other forums and I think I've narrowed the problem down to my SAMBA install.
I am trying to set up a home LAN to learn about Linux/Apache/Samba etc. I have a SuSE 7.1 box as server and a Win2K as client. So far I have it setup using DNS where my browsers...
Hi. I am trying to setup a simple LAN at home using Linux/Apache as my server and Win2K as a client. I can ping the server (192.168.1.100) but it doesn't show up on My Network Places nor does it work if I try to use IE to bring up an HTML page from the server.
Any ideas on where to start?
Thanks.
OK, once again I come to you all with hat in hand. I am trying to set up a simple LAN at home between 3 computers. I am running (now) SuSE 7.1 as my server and am trying to get my main box (windoze 2000) to find the network. I think it has - at least partially.
If I ping the server from the...
OK, I am slowly closing in on this but am still having problems trying to fully update apache. The main problem seems to be that it won't (can't) find mod_throttle. I have used tar/gunzip to extract the files from the tar and placed them in /usr/lib/throttle (a directory I made) and placed a...
Thanks to Woodlark and others I now have my LAN (ethernet) working. I have SUSE 7.1 as my server and and a Windoze 2K as the client. I can "see" HTML files on either machine using webbrowsers. Next is SAMBA.
But before that I am having a crazy time trying to update some packages...
OK - I am fairly new to Linux but trying to learn fast. I am setting up an intranet between 3 boxes at home. My server is running RedHat Linux 7.1 and Apache. I have all 3 machines hooked up to a hub which seems to recognize all 3 (3 indicator lights are lit up). The other 2 boxes have Win 98...
I've looked everywhere I know of (man, whatis, apropos) and can't find a reference to the command that lists what daemons or services are currently running. I know I saw it recently.
BTW, can anyone direct me to a good book (thorough) on Linux (Red Hat, currently I am running 7.0 as a LAN...
I run Red Hat 7.0 and have been trying to update my Apache installation. It keeps telling me I have dependency problems with libmm.so.11 and apache =1.3.12-25. I had about 5 others but I fixed those.
I can't find libmm.so.11 anywhere -Red Hat's rpm site or on my box.
Any suggestions? Thanks...
