Just to confirm what i believe to be correct, can someone look at the below and tell me how much memory is available to a process on this system if i start one? If you can explain why that might be helpful too..
Thanks

I have a 7028-6c1 (p610) server.. Brand new. When it boots is eventually stops at a blank screen and has error 0c31. Where do i go to find out what that means? The servers didnt include a printed book to lookup codes in and i'm not sure where on IBM's site to look for this type of info...
I have a tape from a customer which I need to copy. It has never been inventoried or cataloged and is not from my environment. How do i go about copying it?
If this tape is a sequence 2 in a 4 sequence set, would i need to copy the others as well if all I cared about was the sequence 2? Or can...
I have a customer with 500 tapes from a software called Live Vault. It seems to install on Win2k just fine. It even accepts my Storagetek Timberwolf 9730 (DLT8000) library as a library. Problem is i don't think it likes the library. I don't really know how to use the product but if i put a...
Currently with 3.4 when i do a restore the only way to see if it's done is to check the corresponding log file. With multiple restores going thats kind of pain to constantly flip back and forth between them. If anyone is using 4.5 has this changed at all? Is there anything graphical that lets...
Backup Exec v8.6 or v9. How would one go about duplicating a tape so I would have 2 copies of it?
More importantly, what if the tape in question has issues?
Perhaps it's a tape thats part of a sequence and i dont have the other tapes..
Perhaps it fails to merge or restore due to some...
Arcserve 2000 SP4. How would one go about duplicating a tape so I would have 2 copies of it? I seem to recall reading some cmdline tool that does it..
More importantly, what if the tape in question has issues?
Perhaps it's a tape thats part of a sequence and i dont have the other tapes...
This is probably an overly simplified question since i don't have a lot of info beyond this.. But Besides obviously having enough drive space to hold it, whats the rule of thumb as to how much memory one should have for such a server? Or are there any?
Ditto cpu.. single/dual/quad? What factors...
Whats the proper way to erase the arcserv DB and start from scratch for whatever reason?
Currently we reinstall Arcserv by removing it and eraseing the CA directory. This gets us a fresh DB. How do i do it without doing that?
Thanks..
My IBM reseller is quoting my a list price of $2395 for a single 75GB SCSI drive for a 615 pSeries. I about choked when i heard that considering an IBM 146GB SCSI drive can be had for as little as $740 through any third party vendor.
Question is, do those or any other hard drives work with a...
Just curious.. best i seem to get is 400MB/min as reported by arcserve when doing restores. We don't use Arcserve for backups. Doesn't seem to matter whether i use DLT8000's or SDLT320's.. Thats about 6MB/sec which is what a DLT8000 is supposedly capable of. Nowhere near the 16MB/sec an SDLT320...
I'm new to Arcserve on netware.. specifically we just got v9. I've merged a tape we got from someone else and under database or restore when i look at the sessions it merged it wont let me expand them to see what files there are. On arcserve 2000 on NT this isn't the case.. usually you merge...
We've been using Arcserv 2000 on Windows 2000 for some time. It certainly has it's quirks. What i'm wondering is in what ways are v9 different? Just thought i'd start a thread on pros/cons to v9.. did the fix anything thats still broken in 2k?
Can someone point me to the right location in a document on what DB maintenance options there are? DB Pruning doesn't seem to do anything to reduce the amount of footprint Arcserve stores on my server. I seem to recall reading something some time ago about some cmdline executables that do...
With BackupExec one option when cataloging a tape (the equivalent to merging in arcserv) is you can check a box or hack the registry (depending on whether you're using v9 or v8.6) to force BackupExec to catalog tapes by reading them file by file instead of just reading the catalog at the start...
We have an Access database behind a firewall in a different Windows domain then corporate. I need to punch a hole through the firewall and connect to that DB remotely. Any thoughts on what the best way is to go about doing this and what ports Access uses?
using smit tcpip and adding a static route of destination network 0, gateway 10.1.51.1, netmask 255.255.255.0 seems to work to set the default route for my en1 interface..
however everytime i reboot it seems to get wiped out. How do you permenantly set the default route on AIX?
I have a directory that is causing an I/O error when I try to run a find on the / filesystem.. it turns out the find is working but dies with an I/O error when it hits the below directory:
/var/sadm/SUNWkvm/install/copyright
if I go into that directory, you can't do anything.. theres no...
