I want to keep up on new trends and developments in the IT industry, and I want to know everyone's opinion on a good trade magazine for IT professionals. I really prefer something in print. Can you all let me know what you read/prefer, and why?
Thanks!
Rob
I justed installed SP2 yesterday, and for testing purposes I need to be able to turn off the firewall using a registry edit. I've looked and thought I found the key in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center
but changes I made did not help.
Any suggestions?
I am looking for a way to completely disable the Reading Pane (preview pane) in Outlook 2003, without having to select each folder one at a time and use the View menu. Does anyone know of a registry key or is there a setting that I am missing?
Thanks in advance...

We have several PC's with Matrox dual head video cards here. One output goes to the monitor, the other to a projector. I want to clone what is on the monitor and show it on the projector. Matrox defaults to expanding the desktop. I have learned that I can setup a hotkey to enable cloning...
We're starting to test Outlook 2003 here and we're having an issue with the News button on several machines. When it's clicked, instead of starting the OE newsreader, it opens the following folder:
root:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook

Is it possible to display the full date along with the time in the system tray? I think you can do it in 98, but we have some users here who want to do it in XP.
I haven't been able to find anything on the subject thus far so any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
I haven't even written any login scripts before, and was wondering if someone could help...
We have some workstations that are Win2000. When they login to the NT4.0 server, the date/time does not synchronize. The script worked fine with Win98. Any ideas or websites to look at?
Thanks.
Is there a way to increase the number of users that can use a shared workstation folder? The max right now is 10, and I need to allow 15-20 users to access this folder at the same time. The folder contains an access db that is constantly updated.
Thanks.
Does anyone know how to either disable the View menu, or disable parts of it (such as the Explorer Bar sub-menu)? I am looking for a registry DWORD or a WIN2K policy.
What I want to accomplish is to prevent any access to the internet. Users should only get to intranet sites. The issue is...
I just passed A+ today (I don't know what I was so worried about), and now I have my sights on either Network+ or Server+ so I can go on to MCSA. Any ideas as to which is better? Any good books to prepare with (I hear this Mike Meyers guy is the man. What do you think?)
Thanks
I need some help restricting users on some NT workstations. I want these users only to be able to access one program and one intranet site but I'm not sure what the best option is. I don't want these users to be able to do or see anything else. I'm guessing I'll need to edit the registry but...
I'm running 98 and I have a large ppt (just under 24MB) which I need to access from another workstation. Is there a way to either compress the ppt or to break it up into multiple files, but not interrupt the presentation?
We currently have a poor way of running reports here. Someone uses Crystal Reports to pull raw data from a Sybase database, and then formats the data in Excel. Crystal reports is rather expensive for this little task (about $900), and I here that Infomaker is a better bet. But I'm not a DBA...
I can't get the groups to export along with the address book. The contacts appear when I import to a new machine but not groups or distribution lists. Can this be done, or does anyone know the correct files to grab?
My goal here is to take the contact list from one machine with Win98 /...
I need to find a simple way to gather HW info for all the machines in our building, and I'd rather not walk to each one and start writing. Does anyone know of a free or cheap software product that will grab this info for me. Even if I have to use it on each machine rather that over the...
