    Changing 3640 NAS setup...

Hi. I have a 3640 with a bank of MICA digital modems in it for remote users to call into. I don't know much about the config, I had just copied the config from a router at a prior job and modified it until it worked :) So things worked great for years but now I need to handle one specific...

    Postfix as a spamblocking forwarder

Hi, First off I'm Unix-mail ignorant, I want to learn but haven't had time lately. So this question is probably pretty basic I want to put a Linux SMTP forwader/proxy in front of our MS Exchange server. We have something doing that now but want to replace it. Is Postfix (with smtp) able to do...

    dnsd won't generate ptr entries

People can't get mail from us because they're spam filters do reverse lookups on our mail servers, which fail. I ran dnswalk against us and got a lot of PTR warnings. Back in my BIND days I added PTR lines by hand, the book says the clicky-click Raptor is supposed to add them automatically for...

    delete and make forms

How do I delete forms I've made? From personal forms library, and/or organizational forms library? In EFD, how do I get it to submit the form to organization forms library? I can get it to go to public folders and such, but nothing people can use. Also I'm going to try this in O2K and see if it...

    kernel compile odometer didn't click

I just recompiled a kernel and everything seems great, but for some reason the build number (what's the real term?) didn't kick over. See below - Linux evil-tim 2.4.19 #1 Tue Nov 19 09:23:55 CST 2002 i586 unknown Isn't the #1 after the version the number of times you've compiled the kernel...

    Hard power cycle firewall

We have one of the Axent Raptor Linux-based rackmount firewall. It likes to quit working almost once a week and requires a restart through the MMC. Someone asked if we could just flip the switch off then on. I think this is a no-no, but need to hear someone else say it. Could someone let me...

    What is winrpc32.dll??

Hi I'm installing some app that bombs when you try to run it. Installed as user and admin, ran as user and admin, nothing works. The error I get is: someprogram.exe- Can't find winrpc32.dll I searched the machine (a W2k Pro RIS load) and could not find that file. Searched a W2K Pro non-ris and...

    weird /dev/null issue

Ok, don't ask me how this happened but somehow /dev/null got replaced with a flat text file. The text contained something like "Cannot stop apache (281) no such process". So needless to say, I can't copy files to /dev/null and a lot of things don't work right. I deleted the file but...

    Device permissions

I have a machine with a few ttyS's on it and can only run minicom as root ("cannot open /dev/ttyS3:Permission denied"). I chowned them to me and it works fine. Is that a normal thing to do? any better ideas? Thanks!

    Using subnet number zero?

I'm setting up some point-to-point interfaces. Is there any problem with this ip address? subnet 192.168.1.0 hosts 192.168.1.1 and 2 bcast 192.168.1.3 netmask 255.255.255.252 The calculator I'm using says not to use subnet zero, but I think it's a router issue. Any ideas?

    3640 NAS questions

I have a 3640 with 24 digital modems (mica's). A T1 is hooked up to the unit and is used soley for hosting inbound dialup connections. A few quick questions: a) Is there a newer firmware out then 2.7.3.0? My users want to use v.92 and I heard that's in the next release. b) We have a...

Experiences with large Linux firewalls? (LONG)

I'm working on a replacement for our company's current firewall. My plan involves several vanilla Linux boxes (running Netfilter, a sniffer, and some other monitoring packs) arranged in a DMZ configuration. The development version (only 4 machines) is about 50% complete and has been a blast to...

    Delete mail to nonexistant recipient

Is there a way to have Exchange 5.5 just throw away email that's bound for a nonexistant smtp address? We don't want them, and generating NDR's is expensive (and risky). Thanks!!

    Redunadant web service?

This probably isn't the right forum, but I know there's people here that'll understand this.... Say I have two T1's (A and B) at my work, connecting to two different ISP's. We do our own email, dns, web servers etc and everything is great. Our customers connect to our web page via T1 A...

I'm trying to compile a kernel for firewall support and when I try to boot the new kernel the box reboots, and I have to boot the old kernel. Here's what I'm doing: (pent 166, 64m, ide everything, Debian 3.0 stable, going from 2.2.20 to 2.4.19) -Do a very lean 3.0 install, no options...

    Dumb questions: scsi and firewall

Here's two simple ones: Why is linux sometimes unable to boot off scsi and requires a disk? This has happened on systems that have before booted off HD with lesser operating systems. I don't mind normally but I need to recompile my HP LPR's kernel which means figuring out getting the new...

    here's a wierd one

This happened on my home system and was just wondering what it could've been. I happened to check on the thing one day and the first line light on the mlx20l was green, but speakerphone was off and handset on hook. VMS R3 was just sitting with no calls. I tried dialing out with another set and...

    lpd output to file

can lpd accept a print job and output it as a file? What someone needs is a lpd server that will accept a print job from a remote site. The job could be huge (up to 50 meg) and might take some hours to receive. The file must contain no control characters (upper ascii) When done, it needs...
