I am trying to send SNMP traps from a Nortel 450. Never done this before. I have a Syslog Server running from Solar Winds but this does not seem to receive anything from the switches.
I am setting this up because we are going to do some mac address security and I want notifications if there...
Is there a tool out there that can report what mac addresses are associated with what port - and be able to tell you if something has changed.
I have 250 baystack 450 switches and keeping track of this is impossible.
Our security guys ask for this
thanks
We are looking into purchasing a SSL VPN appliance and I am trying to determine if a virus can be transmitted thru a session. Does any one have any ideas?
thanks
We have a remote site connected by passport 2430 routers with a T1 connection. Everything works except authenticating to an active directory domain. We can ping by name or address. Any suggestions?
thanks, chuck
I am trying to install ICMP filters on an 1150 and I am not having much luck. All I want is 1 filter to block pings, allowing all other traffic thru - I am either blocking everything or nothing - depending on the default action. I have a 8600 and the filters are working as advertised. The 1150...
What are the risks involved with creating a VPN tunnel with a remote user who may be infected with a virus or worm?
With all the microsoft problems going on right now, we are wondering how secure we are by allowing VPN tunnels in from pc's which we do not have complete control over.
We are...
We have microsoft servers on an IBM shark using fibre channel and have seen foreign disks show up on the servers.
We are not sure where they are coming from or if they are a problem.
Any body have any ideas?
thanks in advance
We are using an IBM shark - connected to 2109 fibre channel switches using Qlogic HBA's in NT servers. Sometimes we have double disk drives showing up. Someone here has said zoning may help but my limited knowledge of Zoning states it is used for security and performance purposes.
I have 2...
On the 450 switches there was an option to save the config file on the stack. I cannot find this option in the 470 switch. There is an option to upload the config file but not to save it on the switch.
Thanks in advance for any help!
I noticed on Nortel's website they are offering an Advanced Diagnostic Tools software package for the 8600. Has anyone tried this or have any idea if it is worth purchasing?
thanks in advance for any response.
Our boss expects us to be a 24 x 7 shop without compensating us for being on call at night and on the weekend. Just curious how other shops handle this problem. My boss is a workaholic so he does not want to hear about personal time. And of course everything is a crisis. There are a few reasons...
I am trying to backup the config file on the 8600 without success. ftp and tftp flgs are turned off - at least they are in the only place I can find them - under bootconfig flags. Changing the flags to true will only help me if I boot the 8600, and I do not need to do that. Any suggestions would...
Has anyone used EAPOL from Nortel on their switches to lock down access to the network. The MAC address security looks like a very labor intensive process and I am looking for an easier way.
Thanks in advance for your reply
What would cause discards on an ethernet port when utilization is very low and collisions are non-existant?
We are using Solarwinds and it is indicating discards, but there are no other errors or problems. These are indicated on Gig connections we have set up and I do not have a sniffer with a...
I am having a problem with Arp entries on the 8600. I have a gig ring connected to the 8600 with Spanning tree enabled, When a problem occurs on the ring, spanning tree sends the traffic the other way but the nodes which changed direction cannot be seen from the 8600. The arp entry still exists...
I am looking for the Nortel equivalent of Cisco's Local Area Mobility option. And if Nortel Does have it does it work over Layer 3 switches.
thanks, chuck
