Yesterday I plugged in my second hard drive while the PC still on (I'd previously unplugged it to see if doing so would affect my PC's start-up time). I assumed "plug & play" meant the drive would automatically be recognised when I plugged it back in, but it wasn't.
I re-started the PC...
Ever since I got my PC it's taken ages to load to the desktop. My work PC is half the spec, yet it takes just seconds to load. My mother's PC is almost identical in spec to mine yet hers takes around 12 seconds to get to get to the desktop - mine takes about 3 1/2 minutes!
Here's my spec...
I installed SP1 at the time and have since installed SP2 (regrettably!). My Dad has bought an old laptop off eBay which has XP on it but neither service pack. Does he have to have the SP1 CD and install that prior to the SP2 or does the SP2 include all the SP1 stuff anyway?
Many thanks.

I currently have 512mb ram in my PC. I know from the motherboard manual that it's DDR SDRAM but the manual just says it supports PC2100 and PC2700 so I've no idea which is installed (From what I can remember it's PC2100).
I want to buy another 512mb and have ordered the PC2700 variety as it's...
I've just bought a Hitachi Deskstar 160gb hard drive which I've installed as the slave drive to my main one, (I've taken out the previous second drive, copied its jumper settings and replaced it with this new one).
I don't know if there's something wrong with the Hitachi drive, as at seemingly...
Just wondering what the general opinion is on only using web-safe colours on a site. Surely most people's monitors these days are capable of showing more than 216 colours (if not, how bad do photos appear on such monitors?!)?

Has anyone found any online tutorials for working with the new features of Photoshop and ImageReady CS yet?

This may be a little off-topic, so apologies for that, but I've just got 600k broadband (from NTL as I'm in the UK) under the assumption that I'd be able to download a heck of a lot faster than previously.
My speeds have gone up if I do regular downloads, but if I go on Kazaa I'm downloading at...
I've been given the task of creating a site but haven't yet been given any specific details about what the company wants. I could do with some help with fees and what the client should be providing versus what I should be doing so I'll look like I know what I'm talking about when I meet them...
Is it possible to use PHP code as an include within another PHP page? I know how to do it when the include is just plain HTML (strip out head/body tags etc) but I've never done it with PHP code. I don't know what I should be doing because there's a load of PHP before the head tags etc. Should I...
I'm posting on behalf of my mother, who lives 3 hours away so there's only so much I can do to help her over the phone!
She's recently purchased a Minolta Dimage 7i digital camera and although the camera seems to be working fine she's not as yet been able to view the images on her '98 computer...
I'm a newbie with Access databases (which I'm using with ASP to build web pages). To test if my pages were working properly I entered some dummy information into the database. I then deleted the records once I'd finished testing (by highlighting and clicking the Delete Record button) but now...
I have an ASP script that sends an e-mail and writes the information to a database. What I would like to do is build a page that allows me to view the records.
If I have a script that connects to a database via DSN I can set up the connection in Dreamweaver so that there's a little yellow icon...
I'm a newbie to ASP, so I've used a pre-made script to create a contact page that not only sends an e-mail via CDONTS but also writes the entries to a database.
In the past I've used the Check Form Dreamweaver extension (by Jaro von Flocken) to validate the text boxes, check box etc but this...
I'm using XP Pro, which apparently doesn't come with cdonts.dll as standard. I downloaded cdonts.dll and "registered" it successfully (at least I got a box which said it was successful).
How do I set up IIS so that CDONTS will work properly? I have an icon that says SMTP Server in the...
I've bought a Canon 2400UF scanner but no matter what I do XP just won't recognise it, even though it's supposed to be supported. By this I mean that the scanner will be plugged in correctly but I don't even get the Add New Hardware Wizard and the device is nowhere to be seen in Device Manager...
My ASP pages have scripts in them that are written in vbscript. I've finally found an ASP-based site search that I can get working and which does exactly what I want it to, but it's apparently written in Javascript!
I've tried everything I can think of but just can't work out how I can...
I'm on XP Home and have been happily using the Abyss web server with ActiveHTML for processing ASP. However, I didn't realise I needed a (free) license for ActiveHTML, so it's now expired on me and I can't get it back working even with the files for the license.
I don't know of anyone with a...
I like the expanding/collapsing left menu bar, also the top "drop down" bar at http://www.emenutree.com/. This site produces software to make such menus, but includes a "Thanks To" folder too. The software seems to generate Javascript.
I'd be grateful if someone could point...
When I had a PC with XP Pro I just plugged my Fuji 2600z camera in, the model was detected and then I could download photos from the Camera & Scanner Wizard that would automatically appear.
I now have a PC with XP Home SP1 and nothing happens. When I plugged the camera in the bubble appeared to...
