What rights are required? A customer wants to set up an account that is not a domain admin for installing software. DomainUser/LocalAdmin does not work. I do not yet know what the installation is attempting to do that is failing.
we moved files from a Windows 2000 server to a SNAP server by backing up to a file and restoring to the new location. It seems as though all the JPEG and GIF files were hosed, no errors were reported.
When I open an image file from the new location with a hex editor, it is nothing but 00's...
Maybe you can help me with this… we’re having some browser issues. This is causing intermittent unavailability of network lists. I have only been able to find one article describing this and it related to SMS being installed on the master browser. Well, we don’t have SMS. Any ideas? Thanks...
You can rename/move or set permissions on the file c:\winnt\system32\sysdm.cpl
This will make it so that when someone right clicks on My Computer and selects properties, nothing happens. It also removes the System control panel icon.
Renaming the file is the simplest and can be done with a...
When you attempt to open another users calendar it might pop up an error saying “The information store could not be opened”. This happens by clicking on FILE – OPEN and selecting a calendar that has been opened in the past.

I have configured the recipient policy (days ago) to add the SMTP domain as @domainname.com with the box check to receive mail for that domain. However when I telent into it to test, I get:
550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for user@domainname.com
I configured a server to throttle at 1024kbps and connected via HHTP to download a 34MB file as a test. The test shows as fast as the windows file copy at 100 mbps. Is there something other than the obvious IIS setting?
I know that this is by design and people have written the work around using the event sync described on MS note Q292484.
Anyone use a 3rd party fix?
Who's works and how much $?
Our mailbox information stores have been ballooning over the past week due to a bug that is not published either by Microsoft or Altigen. For example a one store with one user whose mailbox is 740MB was 16GB. Microsoft and Altigen worked together to correct the issue yet neither have a...
When deleting and recreating an email account the OST file becomes locked and changes to it are lost. Anyone know of a cheap/free tool to recover access to the OST file?
I have two mail servers, one with only a private IP address and one with a public and private. SMTP comes in on the public address and tranfers to the server with only a private address. Outbound SMTP goes from the private server through the firewall to the destination. Now someone has...
I have a user who has a password on the screen saver and it seems to go away about every week or two. No pattern can be found, the machine is SP2 and has been re service packed. SFC has been run as well. After we reset the configuration it works properly for a while. The user is not changing it.
I know this is more a Windows 2000 item but I think this is something that Exchange admins would be more likely to do.
We are looking at deligating to managers the right of adding users to their groups. We need to lock down the MMC so that they can only see properties for the lists they are...
Someone deleted a public folder on Monday. My thought is that I could do the following:
Do a full backup of the Store.
Restore the Store from Friday's full backup.
Copy the data I need to a PST.
Restore the store from the backup I just did.
My consern is what restore settings to use (Veritas...
We have migrated from 5.5 to 2k and several people have reported that when the reply to an old message or try to update a recurring meeting they receive NDR's.
They get this for each user:
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address...
If you send an email to multiple people using Outlook Web Access and do not use the check names button before sending you may get an error report back that does not list who the delivery failed for. This applies to both Internet and internal email recipients.
The following is a sample;
