    changing text size on laptop

    I have an IBM thinkpad with 5.05 loaded and the text window takes up about 2/3 of the screen. The X window looks great and takes the full screen, but normal shell logins use only a portion. Is there a way to increase the font size for text windows on the console? mkdev graphic has no effect...
