I've banged my head on this long enough..
http://aplawrence.com/index.html
In Firefox, Safari, Opera and everything else I've tried, this page displays as I intend it to: the column that begins with "More articles in..." is to the right of the main page body.
Sometimes it's there with IE too...
Maybe I'm just misunderstanding things.
Customer has a Win2k server, not a domain controller, but user accounts set up to grant and restrict access to certian shared folders. All that works fine on the LAN.
Now I'm coming in remotely through an external vpn. From the NT servers point of...
Have a user coming in through PPTP (running on different server) trying to access resources on a Win2000 server. Not a domain, just has user accounts set up.
If shares are set for Everyone, they of course can access, but I need to add them for specific shares.
Can't remember how to do this...
I'm confused and am not sure what happened here.
I had three Xp Pro systems that were set up as workgroup systems and needed to join a domain. At the same time, their login names needed to be changed to match the naming conventions of the domain: for example, they were logging in to their...
I just stumbled across these in my data directory. They are obviously db files related to the web server, but I didn't create them and more strangely they have been updated recently.
Hosting company says it's nothing of theirs..
Anybody recognize these as belonging to some app I just don't...
Is it possible to export (and import later) ALL Act! info including history and notes?
I need to clean up a database with a lot of duplicated and incorrect info and the easiest way would be to export it to csv files and then write some cleanup programs to get rid of what I do not need, and then...
What would be the maximum reasonable number of records for an Act 6.0 database?
I've been told that Act may be changing to an SQL server at some point and that would allow larger databases - any ideas on when that might be? Or if true at all? Tony Lawrence

My customer has a Cisco 1720 on a frame relay connection that he has configuration access to.
Presently it is configured to have a 192.168 address on its internal interface and does nat using a small pool of real ip addresses.
I need to put a server in this network that will be accessed from...
Some of you may want to take a look at this:
http://user-mode-linux.sourceforge.net/
It lets you run another kernel as a virtual machine INSIDE your system using a file as its filesystem.
For example, I'm using it to run a Mandrake kernel inside my RH system.
Great for testing, learning...
I've never had a problem before with "up2date" until now, but..
The dependencies check fails with the complaint that no package provides librpmio.so.0
Well, in fact librpmio.so.0 is already present in /usr/lib. According to rpm, it isn't installed, and if I do an rpm -q -f on it...
NT server 4.0 and ipsec VPN.
Windows 98 machine (remote) has this in LMHOSTS
10.1.1.1 NTSERV1 #PRE #DOM:IMAGETECH
10.1.1.1 "NAMISTECH \0x1b" #PRE
(and may not showw up right here but that is a 16 character name)
nbstat -c says:
Node IpAddress: [192.168.2.2] Scope Id...
Windows 2000 server with standard 5 user licenses.
Server has shared printer defined. Printer is actually on a Netgear print server, but I had all kinds of trouble trying to use that directly, so I thought to let the server handle it.
User A spools up 20 print jobs, they start to print.
User...
First I'm a Unix guy mostly.
I do have some Windows experience, and even did MCSE ( 376496) but that was way back on 3.51 so Win2K is a bit of a shock.
Secondly, I'm used to working with NT as a server: domain logons, setting folder perms, no problem.
But here I have this nice Win2k...
I had suggested to abovebrd that his routing faq should be updated and expanded, but he asked instead that I do it, so I did.
The new FAQ is faq58-1436
Someone more familiar with Unixware and OpenUnix 8 than I am should add something similar for those versions.

Those who like the integrated browser/mail/news environment as provided by Netscape might want to take a look at Mozilla- it's now at 0.9.7 and is getting pretty good- good enough that I'm using it now regularly instead of Netscape.
You can read more about it at...
I've added a couple of dozen new FAQs here, but since nothing would immediately clue you that there was anything new there, I thought I ought to mention it here also.
Feedback is always appreciated.

Writing Device Drives for SCO Unix
Addison Weslley
IUSBN 0-201-54425-3
This was published in 1993, , but it's hard to find good books on this subject, and particularly hard to find references to SCO.
This book does reference SCO (though 3.2v4.2), and has enough examples to get you started...
Unixware System Administration
Gene and Melissa Henriksen
ISBN 1-57870-080-9
This is a good introduction to Unixware ( now Open Unix 8). It is starting to be a little dated (things have changed a bit since this was published), but it's still a great start for anyone new to these versions...
Essential SCO System Administration by Keith Vann
Prentice Hall
ISBN 0-13-290859-X
This covers the older, 3.2v4.2 SCO Unix release, so quite a lot of it does not apply at all to current systems. That's unfortunate, because this really is a well done book which presents introductory...
The Sco Performance Tuning Handbook
Gina Miscovich, David Simons
ISBN 0-13-102690-9
Very out of date- doesn't cover anything later than 3.2v4.2- it does do that well, but if you are still running that, you have more problems than tuning.
