Hi,
What is it that causes Windows Explorer to hang for at least a minute or so (on a very fast machine) after deleting a group of files? This does *not* have to be a large group, and after it happens once then it happens on *any* delete--even a single file.
I've seen a few posts elswhere...
I used to be able to easily add shortcuts to the startbar by simply dragging them to Documents and Settings\someuser\blah\blah\startmenu
I do that now--and the link is there in the folder, but not on the startbar. And none of the things that *are* on the start bar are in that folder--the link...
When I log on to a remote desktop session, it's very nice in that I get the true 'Full screen' mode, where the session even covers the local client's Taskbar, and the little 'envelope flap' shows in the center/top of the screen.
If I minimize, I can just click on the taskbar Icon for the...
In the Users dialog of the Admin tools-Computer Management--Local Users & Groups, I only see General, Member Of, and Profile.
Are the other tabs (Sessions, Terminal Svc Profile, etc) only in the Server OS's? Or can I get an Admin Pack with them in it?
One of the main concerns is that I need...
In XP Pro workstation I have Remote Desktop installed. In the old Win2k, there was an mmi window for Terminal Services Manager, where would I find the similar utility for Remote Destkop? It's not in the Administrative tools section.
Thanks,

I'm trying to import files from a program on my Toshiba e300. Yes, I can see the folders on the Toshiba from my PC, but I need to do the reverse--the program on the handheld does something with them so I can't just drag them via PC to handheld. Typing in a valid sharname does not work, the...
Hi All,
In Outlook, the above mentioned setting is in Tools|Accounts|Properties|Advanced...
It seems like this should allow you to download your emails from one machine, even delete them, then hit 'Send/Recieve' again (from the same machine or a different machine using the same email account)...
Hi all,
I have an ATI 9000 Radeon with an s-video output. I hooked it up to my Sony HDTV, and it's all there, but the image is just not sharp. I have the resolution dialed down to 800x600, though the card's software says the tv will support 1024x68.
It was my understanding that standard TV...
Hi All,
Is there some bug in A2002 where it won't allow you to convert a previous version?
What happened is that I opened Access 2002, (with no database, just blank, but logged on as Admin) and selected Tools--Database Utilities--Convert Database. Then I selected an Access 97 database (which...
Hi,
I recall that there was some issue with Win NT or Win 2000 which made Access 97 run very slow. I'm not talking about running big queries, etc, I talking about simple things like just opening a query in design view--this takes up to 20 seconds--with a local .mdb and NO remote tables. This...
Hi All,
I have looked over the MSDN library and I cannot find the winsock control constants. I've seen a few in some code examples, and I've been able to reverse-engineer some obvious ones, ie. I knew the prefix was 'sck', so trying ?sckClosed in the debug window was an obvious choice, but I...
Hi all,
What is the best way to send data messages over a tcpip network? I guess I'm looking for something like AOL's IM, but without the screens. I'd have an Informix db on AIX and about 200 PC's with win98 on a WAN. Upon update of certain informix tables, a db trigger would fire, which...
Hi all,
What is the best way to send messages, actually data and a fair amount of it, over a tcpip network? A simplified model of what I have is, a server machine that collects thousands of records of data per hour, say from a usb port or some other external device. This data has a location#...
Hi,
I recall from some years ago that Oracle and db2 have some mechanism where, upon startup, you can force a table or tables to 'live' in memory--I'm not talking about caching--I mean just read/write from memory and only updating the disk infrequently (accepting data loss if there is an abend)...
Hi,
I rather despise 'active desktop', and I want to undo it and just have a normal 'wallpaper'. I unchecked the 'show web content' box in the Display properties, yet the Background tab still is not there. How do I get back to the 'normal' way? Thanks,

Hi All,
Is Access Point technology standardized? Ie., I want to replace an Access Point on a network with a different brand than that of the PC cards in the client. In my example I have an Orinoco AP and want to replace with Netgear. Thanks,

Hi all,
I have taken ownership of small wireless network, using an Orinoco WavePointII access point. I have the newest AP manager (according to the orinoco site) and am trying to get into the machine to upgrade the firmware. When AP manager opens, it shows 192.168.0.1 as online, along with the...
Hi all,
I did a few barcode projects a few years back and I'm sure things have changed. My question is: What would a standard (or common) method be of getting input to a vb program from a swiping device, either a keyboard or standalone cardswipe? This would be for timeclock input, so people...
Hi all,
I'm trying to use SWAT to configure Samba (using Red hat 7.3), but all the sites I've gone to seem to begin with:
"After you've compiled SWAT..."
I'm lost here...I had the impression that SWAT was already compiled and ready to go with a standard Samba install. I have samba...
Hi,
2 questions from a new Red hat 7.3 (server) user...
1. Where is the firewall configuration? I found this 'Kickstart' thing, and though it had firewall configuration, it seemed to want to completely reinstall?!
2. How do I create either a domain name or workgroup name for this machine...
