As bandwidth increases and the need for privacy expands, scalable solutions for cryptographic processing will be required. Cryptographic solutions must be capable of handling cryptographic processing at full-bandwidth speeds from the PC through the internet backbone. Current cryptographic...
I had some paint custom-matched to the color of the Cisco cases. So a few scratches won't matter. They just get painted over and the routers look like new.
This is very much certification forum information since I heard that there are at least three questions on the test that relate to the...
Is there a recommended IOS Feature Set for use in a CCNA lab? Is it necessary to get an "Enterprise" feature set or will an IP Plus be adequate? (working with 3640 and 3660 routers with max memory)
TIA,

I've got a 3640 router in the lab that doesn't seem to want to copy a version of IOS from a tftp server. Its running IOS 11.2(23) j-mz. I'd like to try to get it running on 12.3(15) that I have on another 3640 and backed-up to a tftp server. Lab use only.
It appears that the copy format...
Before I just walk downstairs to the 3660, yank out the 24meg of old flash and insert 64meg, I just want to make sure - REALLY SURE - that when the system boots, it will go out to the tftp server and ask what file to load for boot. Then I can copy the boot image to flash, change the config...
Just saw one of these with 2FE on e bay for 124 inc shipping, IOS 12.4.

Cheap for one of these behemoths.

I've looked around the Cisco documentation to try to determine the maximum size PCMCIA flash memory card for 3640 and 3660 routers. I can only find that Cisco offers cards up to 20meg. That's a bit small for some of the IOS images, particularly IOS v12.4. It also seems like it would be nice...
Is there any advantage memory with parity vs. no parity?
To put this in context, I just upgraded a 3660 replacing all the old DRAM memory (160meg, non-parity) with 256meg with parity. Its what I could easily get my hands on.
Only difference I notice is that the router seems subjectively...
Here we are again on Friday. The net geeks gathered around the warm glow of their PCs. My wife would give me the supreme compliment by saying "Whatever." She does a lot of CAD so she's not one to criticize.
The lab is starting to take shape. 2 x 3640. One of them needs more flash - 8 meg...
I'm going to end up owning three or four 3600 series routers, at least two 3640s and at least one 3660. They don't have the same version IOS. A possible additional 3640 has 3600 Software (C3640-JK9O3S-M), Version 12.4(5), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc3).
Will that 12.4 version from the 3640 run on the...
In considering various types of interconnectivity between two routers in a lab, is it possible to connect a DSL port in one router to the DSL port in a second router using 1 x WIC-1ADSL in each router?
If so, could the pretty lavender DSL over POTS cable from Cisco work or do I need to build...
Private Isolated Root / Mutual Authentication SSL
Follows is a short explanation of its mechanism and an example of its deployment.
SSL is a commonly used technique that uses public key cryptography to exchange cryptographic keys used to secure communication over the internet. To work...
Part 1
Background
Passwords are often masked and stored in databases to keep them from being compromised through casual observation. Using MD5 as a masking agent provides a one-way method of creating this masking effect. However, creating the simple MD5 hash of a password does not fully...
I'm setting up a simple config for a 3640. DHCP is working on the LAN side and I'm able to access the router via SDM. On the WAN side, I'm getting a DHCP-assigned address from the downstream 877. But a PC connected to the 3640 cannot access the internet through the 877.
(I suspect ip route...
I'm currently using IOS (C3640-JS-M), v12.3(15), fc3) in my 3640 with 1E2W and 1FE1CT1.
I'd like to try other versions if that's feasible. I don't have an account with Cisco (does that make me a no account user?). How can I get other versions of IOS to try?
TIA,

After scratching my head over this for a couple of days, I'm going to throw this out for discussion....
Given that a 3640 is completely modular and requires at least one NM with a couple of ethernet ports to function, why not just go with a 3660 with two built-in FEs? Seems like the price is...
Just to be COMPLETELY sure of the basic 3640 hardware configuration, is it OK to place a NM 1FE-1CT1 in slot0? My other option is a 1E2W.
My understanding is that I need to access the router via either the console or, if via SDM, the ethernet port in slot0.
Once set up, I would like the 1FE...
I'm trying to get to the point of being able to use CRWS or SDM to configure an 831 for a different network. Two problems have come up on a previously working 831 that I can't seem to figure out.
First problem is that the running configuration will save to a file called startup-config but...
