G'day, When I downloaded FireFox Browswer it had no impact on my IE 7.0. If I download IE 8.0, will it uninstall my IE 7.0, or cause any other problems?

I upgraded to 4 GB of RAM Memory to my Compaq Presario SR1901WM PC.The System Information in Control Panel sees the new 4 GB, but I have not noticed any improvement in performance, is there something else I need to to in order to increase speed/performance? Thank You
