    ACCPAC to Great Plains

Anyone here migrated from ACCPAC Discovery to GP? I'm looking at such a change at present and I would be interested in opinions from others who have gone down this route.

    Refunds direct from receivables?

Is it possible to make payments direct from receivables, e.g. for a double payment or overpayment? At the moment this seems to need a credit note in receivables and a cheque payment in payables. Version: ACCPAC Discovery.

    Centronics VS USB cable query

Printer: MFP 3300 (print/fax/scan/OCR/copy). Can't quite get it to operate correctly from the printer (scanning and OCR applications) an thought I might be better off with a USB connection, the Centronics cable possibly not being orginally intended for this level of control. Would I be better...

Discovery and XP Pro - error message

After upgrading to XP Pro, Discovery (V 4.1A) keeps giving me a message that it can't find find CLNWIN32.DLL. However, after displaying the message (for every report or menu) it works OK. I can get rid of problem by telling Discovery to run in Win98/ME compatibility mode, but then I can't run...

ADSL and Kermit - can they co-exist?

We have a line dedicated to ADSL except for once a fortnight when we disconnect the ADSL modem and connect a 56k modem to transmit payroll to the bank using the bank's ancient DOS Telix-like comms program which uses Kermit as the protocol. We have the in-line filter supplied by the ADSL ISP but...

MOD function on invoices (eg Modulus 10)

We are looking at introducing electronic payments (receivables) called BPay. A modulus 10 check digit is required, which can be calculated from the customer number. Anyone done this and can explain what to do? Or got any links on it? Keep simple as we're not clued up on complex changes to forms...

Inactive customers -- how to flag in bulk

In Discovery it appears the only way to flag a customer as 'inactive' is one customer at a time. Very tedious when you want to clear up 6 years of old customers at once. Is there a way to tick and flag customers as inactive in bulk?

    Discovery: refunds/payments direct from receivables?

I have a series of payment refunds to be made to clients. Hitherto we have created a new vendor in payables and done the refund from there. Is it possible to make payment direct from receivables? This would, of course, require a credit note to clear the balance created by the payment but such an...

    Tape Drive Head Cleaning

I propose using CRC Video Head cleaner on my tape drive heads. Any reason why I shouldn't do this? I've found the CRC brilliant with VCRs, where dry tapes generally can't cut the mustard.

    How much use from tapes?

We installed a Seagate tape drive using Travan NS-20 tapes about 18 months ago. Kicked off with 10 tapes, rotated fortnightly. Now I am down to 6 tapes as the others have read errors. This seems excessive as 30-odd uses per tape is not much. Is this normal or could it be dirty heads? The tapes...

    Can't remember IP SOHO unit

I'll kick off! Some months ago we bought a Watchguard SOHO (WG2500) unit but never implemented it -- it couldn't 'remember' its IP and had to be re-set each time. We had the unit installed between a Netgear RT314 and the ADSL modem. The 'forgeting' was a real nuisance, so the Watchguard is...

    Backup software recommendations

Greetings all. I've been using Win2000 server's built-in backup software since installation, with a Seagate drive and Travan NS-20 tapes. I find I can no longer fit the whole server on one tape and have had to reduce the backup to data only. I'd prefer to have the whole server on one tape...

Hub does not recognise LAN cable

Scenario: I've been using ICS to succesfully connect an XP and a Win98SE PC. I acquired a second-hand Hub: Intel InBusiness 16-port 10/100 hub, new in 1997. I though I would use this to connect 4 PCs at home, but wanted to get it going replacing ICS in the first instance. Problem: on the hub...

    After hours network instability

System: Windows 2000 Server, clients = Win98SE. 22 users on small lan. Problem: When there is only one user on the system (before or after hours) that user is regularly loses contact with the server and has to reboot the client PC. On rebooting contact is re-stablished but it frequently drops...

    Backup failure (Seagate/Travan system)

Problem: Backup fails as it thinks the tape is full. Seagate tape drive and Travan 20gb tapes. 10gb data to backup daily (new, complete backup every night). Has worked properly for a year but has been giving trouble for the last month. The error is that the system thinks the tape is full and...

    ICS/Cable routing table problem

System: two NICs, one for ICS (Realtek) and the other to the cable modem (SMC). After a clean install in Win98SE I can no longer access the cable modem. The ICS sharing button shows the NICs are correctly assigned. After 3 calls the cable co help desk says this is a problem with Win98 --...
