Is there anyway to run a web site through any other port than port 80?

What I meant was that I changed the port number to 8080, now how do check it out in the web browser from another computer? When I type in my ip address in the browser nothing comes up.

Is there anyway to run a web site through any other port than port 80?

I am hooked up to the internet through verizon dsl and tech help told me that they shut off port 80 so that servers can't be run through their network. Is there anyway I can change ports to run my web site on the internet?
