BTW. you didn't mention which server you were failing to authenticate to. Is this a standalone backup server or a production server hosting Arcserve. If you are having general problems logging to remote hosts it might be worth installing the push agent (NWAGENT) onto the remote server and...
Sigh!
We came to the same conclusions but we couldn't find anything else that would support Novell that didn't have the same sort of issues unfortunately. If you persevere you can get it working fine but it will need to be constantly monitored and "babysat". Its not really an install...
You could try rebooting and seeing if they're still locked before arcserve loads by trying to rename or move them. NT sometimes has a "funny" about leaving files locked (although a reboot usually relases the lock).
Other than that, we've had to do the same where I am with the Novell...
Arcserve 9 for netware???. This sort of thing used to happen a lot in Arcserve 7 manager s/w for Arcserve for Netware. I've seen some baffling things happen. (I did save screenshots for a while), missing object trees, duplicated object trees, things with the wrong name n stuff. Maybe its the...
...different containers?
XREF/Check TSA NLM versions and CLIB versions across servers. If using IPX then ensure no SAP packets are getting filtered.
There's a list of errors on support.novell.com somewhere.TID 10055360 as I recall. FFFE* indicates a remote SMDR error of some sort.

...type account with full DS object/prop rights to your part of the tree and related arcserve (purple in NWadmin) objects. AS_BACKUP_SERVER and AQ6* plus the server and volumes themselves.
PS Whatever happened to ArcServe 8???? Did CA want to distance themselves from 7???

Backup server can do DNS lookup on target host
W/s and logged in Netware account has full rights to backup server.
Job engine really *is* running. (If in doubt reboot the backup server and the workstation).
DSREPAIR and recheck rights?
Check SMDR config by loading TSA on backup...

If in doubt. Start off the copy job then type
ARCSERVE DEBUG ON
at the console. You can then see what happens as
the job tries to authenticate. I'd have a look at
any switches or routers etc. and see what packets
might be getting filtered out etc.
(use ARCSERVE DEBUG OFF soon after...

Hmmm... Sounds like a bit of a workaround (bodge) from CA here. We've had a lot of problems with firmware causing problems with TAPESERVER.NLM n stuff. Lots of wierd errors have appeared over the years. They don't obviously relate to the firmware but, once updated and NLMs patched to...

My experience is with the Novell version so I'm not all that sure. However, backups of open files is always a contentious issue. If a file is actively being written to then the contents are changing as its being backed up. This presents a problem for any app trying to access the file. So...

RCONSOLE into the backup and production (target) servers.
Check for NWAGENT and TSA on the production server.
Type "modules TSA*" (no quotes). Check that some version of the TSA is returned (TSA410 for files and TSANDS to back up NDS)
Check for NWAGENT with "MODULES...

I think if you looked more closely you'd find that you really don't both have the same permissions. Either that or there are differences between workstations in terms of client version or Manager patching. Try on same workstation to eliminate this poss.
If you still have different...

What are you using to copy across. TSA/NWAGENT?
Are there errors in the log?? (ARCH$SVR.LOG)- I'll bet there are...
Typical scenario is IPX/SPX SAP packets not going through WAN routers 4b, 23f and another one as I recall. There's a full list on Novell somewhere.

Dennis,
Active log files are active. You can't back em up as you're busy writing what you're backing up into them. Why do you want to back them up in any case.
If you need em then use an "after job" command to kick off a batch job to copy 'em or have PKZIP or something ZIP em p on a...
Hi Zipper
Yep, there's compare. But for bigger orgs this can take too long (about as long as the backup itself). The jobs I "tend" take all night to run as we do full backups each night. If doing a compare you'd probably run out of time or end up scanning during the day (worth...
Hi,
I'd guess, the usual suggestions which are to apply the latest patches and NLM updates.
Since upping BTI.CFG did you recreate the database set. It would be a good idea as its almost certainly corrupted. Just upping BTI on its own isn't likely to work.
Take care if you have other apps such...

Yep, thats one fix. (There are a few). Problem is that you may find the problem keeps coming back to haunt you again and again!. This happened to me but subsequent times around the phantom key and remembering to put a dot in front of the username didn't fix it!.
