Protos,
Install it on Both.
Configure it only on ServerA(DB server).
On ServerA
General Tab
In configured media, add serverB
Database Tab
Click "Add" and type a DB SID name, then put in an account name and password(SYSTEM works best).
You also need to tell BE where the Control files...
Protos,
Good form on creating your own thread, rather than 'tagging' someone else's.
It is best to install the Agent for Oracle on both A and B.
On ServerA (DB server) configure the Agent.
On ServerB (Backup server), in the selections screen choose "Remote Selections", "Orace...
Protos,
It's rude to "tag" someone else's Post, rather start your own.
The Oracle agent is best loaded on both, but you need only do any configuration of the agent on the DATABASE server.
On the BACKUP server you can then select the DB's through "remote selections"...
May I venture a guess that you are using Version 8.6?
If so, there are a few people with the same problem (me included)
Here are some things to check before you panic:
1. Does your tape have enough space to hold the data you're backing up? (Taking into account that Compression isn't always...
Hey Tim,
Wicked Surname!! [medal]
Are you using SMTP or MAPI?
If you are using MAPI (ie. Exchange) you can select the check box at the bottom of the Add Notification dialog box to "include log file".
The log file will tell you all you need to know.
If you are using SMTP the only...
I've been using Veritas Backup Exec (ver 8.0 to 8.6) for about 4 years now, and I think it's a great product.
It does have quite a few issues, but the support is pretty good and then there is Tek-Tips for when Support falls short.
One observation I have made is: You have to get to know the...
Word of advice!
Be careful of using a DLT autoloader with BE 8.6
I have an IBM autoloader on an IBM X440 and communication between the robotic library and BE is playing up.
Now just because I've had a prolem doesn't warrant me writing this post. So don't take my word for it.
Read through some...
Just an addition to SQLBill's:
Third, are these tapes part of a media set? If so, click on the media set and change the overwrite protection time.
Try click Tools/options, on the media overite tab select none to disable overwrite protection altogether.
Good Luck!
Tyrone
Paul,
My situation was the same as yours, only I have a tape per day Mon - Thu doing differential backups and a three-tape Friday Full.
Remember that the compression isn't always 2:1
Therefore a 40:80 DLT may become full at 50GB if the compression is 1.3:1 (I found that out the hard way!)...
Kev,
Make sure that the amount of data that you're backing up fits onto the tape. Remember that compression isn't always 2:1.
Big Note [nosmiley]
If you go with the autoloader, make sure that BE will support it. I have an IBM Autoloader and am struggling to get the robotic library to work...
Unfortunately the emails are not specific.
The categories are:
Job Cancelled
Job Failed
Job Successful
Operator Attention
Jay, the one you're looking for is operator attention.
The problem is that it will send you a mail for every type of alert that isn't job failed/success/cancelled.
Every...
It is possible.
On the BE tools menu,
click Notification setup
On the bottom right, you'll need to configure the different options.
We use SMTP, but Exchange is also possible.
Then, in the left main window select an event.
Click add notification and add the method you want. Now just add the...
...up to a remote backup server running BackupExec8.6
BE is trying to backup like this:
OracleDB/MANU (Database)
DRSYS
DR01.DBF
but our *.DBF's are in the root, like this:
OracleDB/MANU
DR01.DBF
How can I get around this?
Thanks in advance
Tyrone [morning]
Stefan,
All I can see (with my untrained eye) is this:
Conflict while setting install type of "Net8 Assistant 8.1.7.0.0" to "Custom (Custom)". Install type already set to "Typical (Typical)". Seting it to "Custom (Custom)"
Turkbear,
I said "didn't...
Hi there,
Is it possible to install Oracle Client 8.1.7 on a Terminal Server?
I need to do this to give some of our remote branches access to the Oracle DB.
I tried to install it but it didn't work and Net8 wouldn't install.
However, the person who set up the Terminal Server made the system...
Hey Lifegard2,
Dumpevt can clear the log for you.
If you read Dumpevt's helpfiles/Readme you'll find a whole whack of switches, one of which clears the log after a successful dump.
I have written a batch file that dumps the logs for all my servers and then clears when it's finished.
Enjoy!
