SQL 2000 SP3
Win2k SP4
I think part of the problem is that the OS image i used to restore is older than the rest of the data.
Should I try creating a new server instance? I'm a SQL n00b.

Restoring from a RAID failure. Got the OS back but having issues with SQL. I don't want to loose any data!!!! Can you help?
connection failed, check sql server registration properties
One of my Win2k servers is on the brink of complete failure and there isn't much I can do about it, yet. It's a Dell PowerEdge so I was on the phone today for a couple hours trying to figure out whether we have a bad controlller or disk(s). We found none of the hardware to be faulty but did...
I'm actually setting up SonicWall GMS but the preinstall instructions are telling me to create a new instance of SQL Server or install Client Tools.
I'm hesitant on creating a new instance and I'd rather just install the client tools. Can this be done using enterprise manager or must I find...
The enabling of the firewall is a good thing although every computer I use & manage is already behind a dedicated firewall of some sort. So, I had to go around and disable it as my WinVNC quit working as well as ICMP & FTP.
One thing I need to get rid of though before the support calls come...
How lame, guess I didn't read very thoroughly. How is it I can connect to a Win2k server using TS/RD but not a Win2k Pro box? Pardon my French but am I the only one that thinks this is just a bit GAY?! t(-_-)t
I hope Bill is a good boxer Q(*_ºQ)

I've got the WinXP Resource Kit book here and I'm scanning Chp 8. From the looks of things all I have to do is install the client from the WinXP disk and I should be ready to go, right????
WRONG! I can't connect yet. The error I'm getting is:
The client could not connect to the remote...
I always post stuff and then find out what the solution is for myself. Hopefully, my posts are helping others... Anyway...yea I figured out what SUS was and I do have all the packages and programs setup per my SMS 2003 book. I'm now releasing patches outside of pre-production. Fired one off...
Back to business, where do I check this (from your previous posts): 'When the clients run the SUS scan package (which you should set to run every day), SMS will detect which patches are applicable and which patches are already installed on every client. This information is then reported to the...
Hmmmm, I should just get that. I've been working with the windows platform since Win95/98. Have you gotten any Cisco certs? I've got the CCNA and I'm working on the CCSP. The MCNS was pretty difficult, I had to take it twice and I barely passed the second time. Just started CSVPN last week...
Hmm, I was wondering this and have already posted a thread regarding this. C'mon MS!!!!! You'd think they would have integrated Windows Update directly into SMS 2003. WTH?! Or if you're vulgar like me: WTF?!

Laterz!!
Thanks. I figured out how to download automatically while using the distribute software updates wizard. I just needed to give permissions to the DL directory.
On a similar subject: How can I manually update the SMS server's list of available patches and how can I set this to update itself on...
I've been following my MS book "SMS 2003" throughout my installation and configuration. I'm into Chp 13 now, Patch Management. If any of you have this book, I'm on pg 539 and I'm trying to follow the 8 step process. I guess what is throwing me off is the lack of illustrations that the rest of...
Found the problem late yesterday. The code that autodesk has posted on their site for silent installs was too long for the command line field in program properties. I shortend the unc path and our company name... Voila!
Thanks again.
Few more things I forgot to mention:
I changed the package to point @ setup.exe in the directory w/ the source files and the package works fine. I guess I just have the path to the MSI wrong or something.... What's wierd is that I navigated to a batch file that I made and double-clicked it...
