    Subnet Mask revisited

The main benefits for subnetting is 1)Security - only allowing a certain number of nodes onto your network. And 2)Being able to have multiple SUB-NETworks on the same ip address range. Where before you had one network of 254 nodes, now you can have multiple networks with only 15 nodes each, all...

What is the 1394 & Network Bridge

WinXP will recognize you firewire (1394) port as another ethernet device. I have heard that it is possible to network via firewire (400mbps speed)with a firewire hub, but have never tried it myself. When you run Network Connection Wizard it will ask you which ports you will use to connect to...

    Intermittant internet connection

Wow, this is definitely a puzzleing one. Have you tried to put the NIC into a different PCI slot? Or, have tried to put two NICs in your machine at once and then try the connection on each NIC? Hopefully that will rule out it being the NIC. Maybe there is an update for your browser or a setting...

    Intermittant internet connection

I be very suspect of the actual patch cable that runs from your NIC to the cable modem. If you have the capability, I would test both the patch cord and the NIC that you use in another machine. Usually I wouldn't blame something like this on heat unless you are experiencing alot of other...

Windows XP TCP/IP removed in regedit

Remove and reinstall the TCP/IP protocol suite. This may put the reg keys back in.

Can we stop the users from loging i

You could unplug it from the network???? Or will that defeat the purpose?

    Home Network DNS issues

It will depend on how you have it set up. If you are using Internet connection sharing then the DNS will be IP address of the first computer (ie: 192.168.0.1). If not, you should use the same DNS as the first computer, Which can be found as suggested above. If this doesn't work, let us know a...

    Win2K Startup Issues

Is your laptop a member of a domain? It sounds like it is looking for a domain server to get the profile from everytime you connect it to a network. When not connected, it simply loads the local profile on the machine. You could remove it from the domain, or if you need the domain to access one...

Need help setting up SMC wireless card w/WinXP

install it with the exclamation mark, then go into device manager and "update" the driver. Sometimes microsoft will then find the correct "microsoft driver" for the device. (I had to do this once even though I had downloaded the newest driver from the manufacturer.)

    WIN2k Server (Network Neighborhood)

I have a few more questions so we can see if we can figure this out: Do you have folder sharing set up on the win2k server? Can you hit it by typing \\servername or \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (server ip) in the run command?

    WIN2k Server (Network Neighborhood)

hmmm, so you can get an IP from the server with DHCP, And you login through the server, but you still can't see it or use it to get to the internet. Have you tried to ping it? Have you tried rebooting both machines? have you checked your cable connection? I am thinking that you may have a bad...

    WIN2k Server (Network Neighborhood)

As long as you have joined the domain you should be fine. I assume that you login to your machine via the account on the server which means the two are talking? Have you tried browseing all networks? I noticed that I had to go through the "view all networks (in net neighborhood)" and...

    WIN2k Server (Network Neighborhood)

Make sure you have the laptop on the same "network" as the server. Not just IP address wise, but OS wise too. Sometimes you need to setup file and print sharing in order for you to view other computers on the network.

Need help setting up SMC wireless card w/WinXP

Does the device driver have a setup file? You could try that, rather than using the drivers wizard. Maybe XP is recognizing it as the wrong card.

I agree with interNETech. Thanks for the link too.

    Bluetooth Internet Access

I would set up internet connection sharing (ICS) on your XP machine. It is a very simple setup and as long as you can connect wirelessly to your XP box, you should have no problem getting it routed to the internet with ICS.

    Romoval of internet history

I have mainly used it to erase the entire HDD. I haven't really done individual files. What little experience I have had, is that what ever you delete, gets erased completely. That goes for all files and not just the history folder. So once you delete the files in the history folder, you can run...

    Romoval of internet history

It is true inikis that formatting will not erase the information at all. A simple utility called unerase will easily unformat any disk. However, they do make programs that will erase everything. One that I know of is called BCWipe. We use it in the military to remove sensitive materials from our...

Hello Let me try to explain my pro

You will need to find out what the specific port(s) are that the application liscencing uses. Unfortunately, I do not know what those are. Then you will need to forward those specific ports to the internal addresses. IE: if the port is 7788 inbound port ip adddress privateport 7788...

Setting up laptop wireless to LAN

There shouldn't be anything in the wireless setup giving you this problem. As long as you can see/ping the machines then your wireless connection is working. Wireless is just a means of transportation and doesn't deal with any shared folder access rights. If you did have that laptop hooked up...
