Thanks for all of the suggestions. As much of a headache it may be, I may opt for putting the new hard drive on the new system and move the files rather than moving the hard drive.

I currently have a 3-year-old system with a Gigabyte GA-7DX AMD 761 mobo and AMD T-bird 1.33 CPU. I'm happy with Gigabyte and AMD, so I'm planning to upgrade to a Gigabyte mobo with a KT600 chipset and a 2800XP CPU. Since my current power supply is only 300 watts, I'm going to replace the case...
I have resolved the conflict. The indication came when I got an error message and Word generated a log and shut down. I can't recall the error message, but the MS knowledge base indicated that it is a known problem when ViaVoice installs its global templates in the startup folder. In any...
I've successfully installed Via Voice and started setting up and discovered that I have a compatability problem with the Via Voice templates installed in the Office Startup folder. Word 2000 won't even open with them there. So, I removed them from the startup folder. Now Word is fine, but I...
My husband just got an IBM thinkpad with Windows XP Pro and after reading the comments about the teletubby icons, I took a good look at them. I think I'll keep Windows 2000. Thanks so much for all of the comments. This has been more useful than reading some of the reviews in the computer mags.
Thanks for all of the feedback. This has been most educational. Tom's Hardware guide gave my motherboard fairly good reviews when it came out, so I think I'm going to stick with it for awhile longer. I'll upgrade the cpu when I'm ready to upgrade the motherboard as well.

Thanks!! You have probably saved the the cost of the new software and a lot of headaches. I've read plenty of "I just upgraded my OS and now ___ doesn't work" threads and I would like to avoid joining them.

My OS is Win 2k and I posted a similar query in the OS forum about upgrading to XP Pro. The consensus there is that I should leave the OS I have well enough alone. It sounds like, other than increasing the RAM, the same is true for the hardware. Thanks. Both forums have probably saved me a...
I've read a lot about the wonders of XP Pro and I'm wondering if I should be jumping on the bandwagon. My computer is currently running Win2K and I don't have any complaints. I'm running mostly Office applications and the occasional strategy game. Should I upgrade to XP Pro or leave well...
My computer is currently running with an AMD 1.33 ghz CPU, a gigabyte GA-7dx motherboard, and 256MB DDRAM. I've checked the specs for the motherboard and it will support up to an XP2000 (1.67 ghz). Query, is it worth the time and trouble to upgrade the CPU to an XP2000. Would I notice enough...
