Scanman,
Do you have a font handler like Extensis Suitcase? Also, are the fonts you are using embedded within a particular graphic and then pulled into a Quark Image box?
For example: If you save an Adobe Illustrator file as an EPS but do not use the 'create outline' feature to convert the set...
Well, I must admit that we HAVE loaded every font we own into Suitcase. Even if we only temporarily activate those fonts and sets that we will need to use. And the designer currently experiencing the problem does have to manage a lot fonts and open documents when assembling our magazine.
I...
Thanks again for your help, BD! But I think all your concerns and advice were sound given the problem as I presented it.
None of the troubleshooting steps I've taken seem to make Quark and Suitcase launch any faster. However, the applications _will_ load together if we simply wait for...
Thanks, BD
I did swap and replace the troublesome font from the enclosing folder Suitcase is linked to, but did not delete and recreate the link from Suitcase. I'll give this a shot.
Thanks again!
Brady
Okay. It helps create PDFs via the Export PDF function. I wasn't planning on deleting it. But can I trash all the redundant fonts that are in it? It doesn't start full, does it? I'm trying to get a handle on what jaws does and why it needs to keep all those redundant files it creates.
To get...
Can anyone explain what the function of the jaws folder within QuarkXPress? It seems to be a repository for redundant .ps fonts that XPress creates for it. Why does it so that?
On my last reinstall(!), I sent in the reactivation form via PDF. (This was just after 7 p.m. US CST.) Then I called the appropriate support phone number for reactivation FIRST THING the next morning and asked about the status of the reactivation. I told the operator why I had to reinstall Q6...
Update: Yesterday, Quark was sluggish and then today it wouldn't load fonts properly. Noticed also that Suitcase X1 wouldn't stay put in the Login Items folder. Quark also took a long tme to load. For a complex set of reasons, I decided to reinstall Suitcase and launch Quark under the Quark...
Hello,
We have a Mac Mirror Drive G4 with OS 10.2.8 and Quark 6 and Suitcase X1. Just today, we're experiencing printing problems with a particular font. The font looks great on screen but bitmapped when printed.
The font in question is Futura Bold, a postscript font with the appropriate...
Update 3
Did a fresh re-install of Quark and needed help from the company to reactivate the program.
Along with the reactivation, the staff person walked me through a quick series of questions and troubleshooting steps to diagnose and correct the problem in 6.0:
The 'jaws' folder contained a...
Do you launch Quark when you boot your computer or at another point after? Do you have any other programs that are activated to launch on start up? Is it a version of Quark that requires Classic to run? All of these may be factors in causing Quark to boot slowly, if the problem does not reside...
I upgraded to 10.2.8 and installed the new Quark 6.1 components into my mac. The problem that I reported in another posts persists, so I hardly know what to say on that point.
One thing I learned is that the 6.1 upgrade ad patch will not work with the Badia FixUnknown XTension. A peek into...
Update 2:
1. Upgraded to OS 10.2.8.
2. Downloaded the Quark 6.1 upgrade, 6.1 Quark.dylib, and Jaguar Help for Quark.
3. Installed new Quark items. (Hassle free compared to installation and activation.)
4. Problem persists! Quark 6.0 (and now 6.1) quit unexpectedly when I try to import any...
...dual processor G4 with 1GB RAM. The user with the problem Quark maintains a more reasonable font set and they have the same computer configuration. *shrug*
"It seems silly to question an update - - especially when the update seems to address your immediate issue."
It would seem silly. But...
I recently re-installed Quark on a computer to eliminate a problem with it crashing when it tries to import PDFs. It would be one thing if happened on all the copies of Quark 6.0, but it's only happening to one!
A suggestion ahs been made to update to Quark 6.1 to cure the problem. I would...
