Check the firewall that may be enabled by default. I've run into sysvol replication problems when the firewall was turned on.

Good points, thanks for the response. I don't think they are an online backup company, just an SMB consulting company but they've never been able to explain to us or the customer how it actually works. I'll look into the Doyenz and ShadowProtect though.

An update: I checked AD Sites and Services and it appears it's not a DC after all, I didn't actually click on the server name first. The other two servers have the NTDS Settings and say 'domain controller' in the "type" field on the right.

It's probably started as a service. If the viewer pops up and asks for a password, then it's in the startup/registry as a startup item. Otherwise if it's the server, then that's a problem.

Nope, you can get (search) for poproute and it's free. It does require manual installation of usernames, passwords and mailboxes but it's free.
