Thanks! So can you just copy the files that are on a Knoppix CD over to the USB, change the boot order and then it behave just like the CD? If so, how do you go about changing the admin password once in?
Thanks!
I have a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 with Ubuntu dist on it. It's my daughter and she does not remember setting nor can we crack her admin password to make config changes. There is no CD drive on the mini. Is there another way to crack it? Can you run Knoppix or BartsPE from a USB?
Sorry, just got around to testing these ideas. I recreated the task and still had the problem. I was added to the admin group and still had the problem. I was not using any mapped drives, everything is on this local drive. BUT once I put the cmd /c in the front of the run line and tested it...
I have a simple batch file on a WIndows 2003 server that works fine running from the command line. I want to schedule this batch file to run once weekly on the scheduler. I can run it fine when I right-click and run it manually thru the scheduler. However, for some reason it never runs on...
I believe it is a DOS based WinZIP. No way to break it up as it is actually a database that is being zipped up. Machine has 4 GB of RAM. 236 GB partition (on same partition as db) 2-4 GB page file on C only. How large should I go on the page file and should I add a page file on the partition...
RAID 0 SCSI (hardware RAID) Dell 1750
Just looking for usage/percentage. Looking to find a bottleneck. (Basically have a file that is taking 2 hours to zip up and looking to find out where the bottleneck is, if it is memory or disk I/O, etc...)
I got a hard drive I suspect of going south. It doesn't report anything on scandisk but I would like to do a more thorough disk check. Anyone know of any generic (preferrably FREE) disk utility download that test different makes that works good?
Thanks
Although this problem turned out to be config corruption and not much could be done other than recopying the image I would like to thank all for their suggestions. A special kudos to djtech. I downloaded the Barts PE and that is a SWEET utility. Load it with the ERD Commander plugin (if you...
Not sure, I will check that. I was going toward the direction of it being a machine/OS problem as the very same NIC in a very similar machine does not have the problem and neither do the other machines I bring onto the wireless network. No configuration changes were done on any other machines...
DSL wireless router (2wire SBC setup)....I just removed the wireless USB card from my regular desktop machine that has no problems and put it in this machine (both machines are the same Compaq Deskpro 800 series). But for some reason this one is is VERY slow and intermittent. I can have 2- 4...
I have an XP machine with a new install on it (Compaq P3 800 256 MB Ram) . I put a wireless lan card in it and connected to my DSL and it is VERY slow and intermittent on the web. One time it will hit Yahoo and the next time it won't. Gets very long delays before pulling up websites or, the...
Yes I did....the weird thing is that none of these boot utilities saw an OS to connect to. I tried Knoppix, Trinity Home and Winternals ERD Commander and none saw an OS to mount to even though this machine was booted up to a login screen. Appears to be corrupted vm config files on the ESX...
The first link you supplied says it won't work for server 2003. The 2nd link you sent is for resetting the DOMAIN admin password. It states you must have the local admin password and that is the one I need. I need to get or bypass the LOCAL admin password on a 2003 server...
It is a virtual (VMWare) image. Should be handled pretty much the same way though if anyone knows how to bypass or retrieve a local admin password on 2003. I'd rather not pay for unlock utility either if possible.
It is a member of a domain but that is why I need the local admin password so that I can rejoin it to the domain. If these images aren't used within a few days I have to always remove them and readd them to the domain. BUT unless I have the local admin I cannot do that.
I have an 2003 Server image from last month I rolled back to and it doesn't seem to want to take the local admin password I distinctly remember setting up. Does anyone know of a way to change or retrieve this from a 2003 Server?
