Win98 freezes at logo during startup after upgrade

HI, I just upgraded my P2-400 to a AMD XP-1600+ together with at new motherboard /ram/graphics card (Geforce2 400MX).

Now when win 98 starts up it hangs at the logo screen.

I can start in safe mode.

What could the problem be? What exactly is disabled in safe mode? So far I have eliminated the CD-ROM as the problem.

Maybe, if you edit the msdos.sys file :
attrib -r -s -h msdos.sys to clear read-only, system and
hidden attributes, and then add the line
Logo=0 under [options].
After saving, reset the attributes.
Then it may be easier to see what is going on.
Add/or you can try a logged boot.

It could also be that the HDD controller in windows is now different. I had a similar problem after upgrading a machine. Once i installed the (in this case VIA) drivers for the IDE controller windows would not boot, as soon as i disabled this then the machine worked fine.
