No and yes. RJ48 (from my knowledge) is the male mod end on a patch cord. While the RJ45 is the female recepticle. You should be able to take a Cat5 patch cable right to this WIC. Traffic shouldn't be an issue if you have the right IOS to support it.

RJ48 uses RJ45 modular plug, so Cat5 will be fine.

so what you are saying is that I should be able to just 'plug in' my traditional cat5 with the rj45 or will i need a different terminator (rj48). Sorry to make this more than it is just want to be sure. This needs to be one of those one shot on kill install's

Where's the other end of this cable going? PBX? Some of the interface youse different pairs than ethernet, but because it's a straight through cable, a lot of times it doesn't matter. Please expand on where the other end is.

The other end of this cable goes right to our T1 drop at our location. Just a standard T1 for data. I'm using this interface because I can squeeze 2 T1's into a single mod. This will leave me with my AIM slots for growth. In the past for applications like this I used a smart serial wic that also had 2 interfaces. Anyway I spoke with our phone guy and he says I can use the regular rj45 / cat5 combo in this interface.
