Turns out the problem was a bad theta drive moter in the tape library. At least so far this looks like it fixed it. Thanks for all your advice.

Tape ejects but is not put back in its slot

Hello, We have a StorageTek L40 tape library unit on UNIX with NetWorker 7.3.2. I seems like all of a sudden when a job is complete the tapes eject (or unmounted?) from the drive but are not put back in its slot. My question is this a NetWorker, OS or tape library configuration issue? My guess...

    Client Index Backup

I learned something new today. Now why didn't EMC just point that out when I called, is pretty obvious now that I see that! Thanks all for your help. Steve

    Client Index Backup

Thanks, I am now backing up indexes to a seperate tape. I hope this will help if our NW servers hard drive ever goes out again. I think one of my initial concerns is actually a error in our config, I can't back up the servers file system that contains the indexes. It backs up the folders but not...

    Client Index Backup

Thanks you fot your reply. Let me make sure I have this right, because what I set up did not work. I added a new Media Pool. Under Selection Criteria > Save Sets I put in: index bootstrap For the Group I added the NSR server as a client and told it to back up the location of the indexes. That...

    Client Index Backup

Hello, I am wondering how to backup all the client indexes to just one tape so that in case of a total NetWorker server failure all I would need to do is restore the indexes from one source instead of doing a mmrecover on all tapes. If I try to back up /networker/nsr/index/* it will get the...

scanner error - no tape label found

Here is what we found now; when the tape library and NetWorker was first installed the SGI tape support daemon (part of APD) was not licensed properly. This somehow messed up the config. We removed the tape library from NetWorker, ran jbconfig and it seems to work now. Not sure what it means but...

scanner error - no tape label found

Thank you for your reply. No, I am not sure about a change in the block size. I followed the prompts and advice from SGI but there didn't seem to be any opportunity to change it. I am not too familiar with the block sizes but thought this was a variable block size system (SGI IRIX). The device...

scanner error - no tape label found

I should add this is the same version of NW the last backups were done with and we get the scanner error with any tape we try, not just this one. Thanks!

scanner error - no tape label found

Out netWorker server's hard drive went out and I had to reinstall everything. This is an SGO 6.5.30 connected to a STK L40 via SGI's APD software. NetWorker is 7.3.2 jumbo11 When I try to recover the server's NetWorker indexes and etc... I get errors in mmrecov dealing with scanner...
