Hi, Davidelnormal, you were perfectly right. Replacing the floppy disk frive solved the problem. I guess it's tru that winXP is more sensitive to hardware problems than win98. Many thanks :-) George

Hmmm... I set the explorer to show hidden files and directories,plus emptied the recycle bin. what is hibernate mode? How is activated/deactivated? And this recovery function... Cheers George
