Thanks Bill, the autorun fix thingy worked like a charm and autorun works again. Leroy.

MSCONFIG is rather complicated to use by most people. I doubt if many people like myself use the utility out of fear of causing problems with our systems. I just thought that manually cleaning up is far safer than your alternative, and has allowed me to once again gain some basic functionality...
I found that a multitude of shortcuts were hiding many of my program listing under All Programs. Deleting the unneeded shortcuts on the menu brought back the missing listings again.
PS: XP, is a strange break-a-away from past versions of Windows which seemed less complicated, and more...
I was having a lot of system freeze up problems with XP Pro SP-1. The computer would receive a "STOP ERROR MESSAGE" on a blue background giving a series of Alpha-Numeric error code messages. I did a system restore that did not correct the problem. I uninstalled a firewall program...
I found that doing simple web searches is a bad idea when searching for specific information. I now only use search engines that utilize advance search options like those that offer options like, "search for exact prase." I found that doing advance searches always reduce the number of...
Thanks to all for the feedback that I have seen on the NTFS filling system. I have decided that converting to the filing system at this time is impractical for me. It seems that while NTFS is a more advanced filing system than FAT32; compatibility issues make using NTFS exclusively a bit too...
Perhaps your missing memory is being used as shared memory on your video board. My system's BIOS allows me to set the memory for video up to like 64 meg. When I check the memory on my system by right clicking My Computer then Properties. It always shows less memory than I actually have. Also...
Other than the obvious advantage of file encrpytion is the NTFS filing system more stable than FAT32? I read somewhere that NTFS is the prefered file system for use with XP Pro. I disovered how to convert my current disk volume to NTFS, but the information also revealed that certain features...
Thanks Bcastner, apparently my system info indicates SP1 is installed and the SP2 items in add/remove programs are the result of Windows Update activity. I strongly urge all Windows users to install all critical updates and patches as Microsoft operating systems seem to be be full of hidden...
Thanks Wolluf, the Doug Knox utility worked like a charm. Each user now has a screen resolution set for their personal viewing each time they log on to XP. It's a shame that this feature is not supported under XP.

Under add and remove programs my system shows a bunch of SP2 critical updates and patches already installed. Now for the silly question. Does that mean I dont't need SP1 updates? Thanks and happy holidays to all.
Win 98 and ME do, but for some reason XP appears to only support one set resolution for all users. I've tried setting different resolutions under administratior but the selected resolutions default to the last one that I set for all user accounts. Any thoughts on what to try next? Thank you in...
Perhaps the solution to your problem would be to put your system into hibernation or standby if your hardware suports these features. It would also prolong the life of your hardware as heat generation degrades electronic components over time. What the heck give it a try and see what happens.
Hello everyone and thanks to all who have posted to help me determine what to do with my problem. I discovered a short term solution by disabling DLA and using XP's CD writing feature to successfully write to my CDR. I also have Nero software available to help with packet writing as well...
This is happening when I scan images using Sonic DLA version 4.00, a Visioneer 8600 USB scanner, an HP 7500 CD writer, and Paper Port version 7.0. The drivers for the CDR are provided by Microsoft. Is there a way to set the file attributes to archive so that I can delete the scans if I want to...
