DHCP expiry problem with NT Server 4.0

hmmm...it sounds like an odd problem. Can you still connect to the current DHCP server through network neighborhood? You said that they current IPs of the workstations are different from your network. Are the IPs the self generated kind or a different set of numbers? I'm wondering if you have a...

    Inherit permissions

It seems silly asking this question but honestly I don't know how to do this. Let's say I have a folder called "main". I set the permissions so that everyone can read and write to it. How can I set the permissions so that if I create a subfolder called "folder1", the folder...

    Print Service Stops

I agree with Spirit...post the messages from event viewer. Also, until you find out what is causing the spooler service to stop...instead of restarting the server, try to restart the spooler service (control panel -> services -> spooler).

    Simple Help Needed.

From what I know, you just need to be running the appropriate service in order for the ports to be open (i.e. ftp/telnet).

    Login Log

Yeah, turn on auditing on the individual workstation (via user manager). It will track logon attempts from a "locked" workstation as well as normal logon attempts.

    Login Log

Auditing needs to be turned on. If you guys have an NT server, the administrator should have already turned auditing on for failed/successful logons. If so, just check event viewer...security.

    Weird installation problem.

Thanks for your suggestions. Removing the cd wasn't the solution. I also tried copying the setup over onto the local harddrive and run the setup from there...still didn't work, I got the same errors on installation. Solution to the problem if anyone else comes across the same symptoms on a...

    Weird installation problem.

I'm trying to install 98 onto a workstation. I bootup off the cd/floppy just fine. Run setup. It starts and finishes scandisk with no problems. It goes to a black screen and says to "Please wait while setup initializes....Scanning system registry...Copying files needed for windows...

    "Fatal server error"

If I try to "restart" xfs I get "failed". If I "start" xfs I get "OK". After I get the ok (still no luck with X)....I do a "service xfs status" and get the message "xfs dead but pid file exits". The reason why I am running X on the...

    "Fatal server error"

(Running Red Hat 7.1) Yesterday, our building lost power. Upon reboot, one of my linux server's screen was "flickering" to a black sreen (never being able to get into X). I reboot at level 3 with no problem and tried to start X from the command line. The screen goes...

    Hard Drive issues

Seems like RAID is set up on the server. More than likely you have two harddrives that are mirrored. That is why you would only see two harddrives is disk administrator....first drive represents the two mirrored harddrives and the second drive represents the third harddrive (or vice versa)...

    dhcp question

With DHCP manager open, go into "DHCP options", "scope". Now, the two that you need are 003 router (use this for gateway address) and 006 DNS server. After you fix this then the new leases will have the correct information automatically loaded onto the workstations.

    XP Home

the xp machine will not "really" join the domain but it could be set up to interact as if it is (kinda like a 98 machine joining an nt domain). The main thing is to make sure your username and password that you set up on your xp machine is the same as your user account that is on the...

    Wierd...DNS IP changes

Well, I'm not sure about it being a hack or virus but you could check to see if you have a rogue DHCP server on your network giving out bad addresses (maybe one that is suppose to be in a test network but is getting out into the real network). Take a look at "ipconfig -all" from one...

moving DHCP to another NT 4.0 server

I used that article when I was taking a dhcp server offline and transferring the info to a new server. I remember that I had no problems by following the article.
