Bandaid is correct. They have no money for the server upgrade or to get their Backup Exec up to date. The backup solution works with version 9.0 so that isn't a problem. They are just looking to more their 9.0 media server license to another device and they have this XP box in mind.

Take a look at this from Idealstor.

We use it for our backups. It comes with backup software but you can also use BE. They also include management software for managing the disks so you don't have to do some of the things with Windows suggested by Tony...
Hi there,
I am helping a friend of mine out with their backups. They are running 2000 Server on their whole network and Backup Exec 9.0. They may need to move their media server license to an XP workstation that they plan on hooking their new backup device to.
Can you install BE 9.0 on an...
Thanks Andy. Which version are you using? I tried it in the past with 9.0 and I seem to remember it queued the other jobs up.

Can Backup Exec run multiple simultaneous backups to a single disk or does it stagger jobs so one finishes then the next starts?
Thanks!

I had a similar problem using USB disks. We encountered problems with drive letters but also corrupt data. Apparently the data wasn't writing to the disk properly. We also had slow backup speeds like you are encountering.

When we bought the system we were using Backup Exec. I think we had 9.1 at the time but is very hard to keep track with all the different versions that come out. It was pretty easy to set up and manage the removable disk devices within BE.

Paul - we have been using their product for a few years and so far so good. We have a little more stringent requirements for a backup scheme so we keep two weeks of full backups. We have been using their backup software of late and it has helped us out.
The initial backups took a while but...
Matt,
We're using one of their products. We have had a 4 Bay for a few years. What sort of questions do you have?
It is working pretty good. We recently bought some of the 750GB disks which was cool because we originally only had 400GB disks available. I use it with Veritas but have...
I use a removable disk solution that offers me 750GB native/disk. I bailed on backup exec for a software that lets me backup in native format and backup incremental changes but restore from them like they are a full. I don't need to use compression this way.
It was a little tricky to figure...
I am interested in getting a DR solution and am looking at Backup Exec System Recovery Server. Is this the same as LiveState Recovery (Restore Anywhere)?
Is the point of this product to perform bare metal recovery from a disk backup vs tape?
Anyone use it before? Feedback?
Thanks!
I spoke to the people at Veritas before and they claim that you don't have to verify your backups if you backup to disk. We backup to removable disk and stopped using the verify a while ago. All is peachy.
Does Backup Exec have a license for Small Business Server? Anybody know how much it costs? Finding out this information from Symantec has been less than easy.
Thanks!
Quick question. Is BE Small Business Edition a remote agent of Backup Exec 10d that gets installed on a particluar server or type of servers?
Sorry if an elementary question.
