Just got an old pentium 550 off a freind, and am trying to use a startup disk to format the HD, so I can reinstall W98 etc...
Once the floppy has been checked on boot, the bios screens flash by, and it normally gets to:
Verifying pool data
Then just halts..stops....the cursor just flashes...
A few things cropped up.
Actual drivers which turned out to not work.

And using intel PC camera drivers changing a value in the .inf ...
I can access their website, but only the index page. Any attempt to go deeper (drivers/support/FAQ) and it comes back with the response:
[downloads] Cannot Connect to Database!

The installation should have been totally automatic, and manfacturers website, said ALL W98's had drivers incorpirated - so support (and drivers) couldnt be found anywhere.

Hi, Running w98 on p133 with 96mb ram
got, 2d, 3d, sound, tv card, &modem on my pci's and isa's.
The USB card is PCI
And, it recognises it on boot up, gets to instaling the driver, and it then says it cant find openhci.sys on the CD, or in windows.
The manafaturer says it should auto setup in...

the system Im trying to make it work on is:
W98, Intel Celeron 433 on a PC100 mobo, with 256mb ram,
6gig HD...
Putting the CDrom and DVD (seperate drives)on secondary IDE - and, on bootup no devices at all are detected. But when I take the DVD out, its all fine.
Even trying the DVD on both master and slave on the secondary IDE cable, changing jumpers - all configurations tried.
Every time I put the DVD...
On my last reinstall of W98 on a 4.3gigHD ,p133 with 96MB EDO ram. I remember twaeking a memory setting to make applications boot from memory other than my EDO boards. You know, so that booting an app up dosnt freeze while loading for a few seconds?
I cant for the life of me rember which...

If I have 256MB and windows wants, say, 128MB. Do I optimise the memoryfor 128, or 256?(minSize0-Maxsize 32000 or min0-max64000)

Running W98se on a pc100 system board with Intel Celeron 433 processor & 24mb ram.
Wanted to upgrade the ram(said would only take pc100 speed, or 66)
But it was suggested to me to try out 256(2x128)mb of pc133 ram.
Its in, and everything is a heck of a lot better than with the 24mb ram.

Thanks for the help guys, I think Ive got it sorted, pressing [esc] has got me into CMOS, and managed to change the boot up sequence (was IDE1 then CD) and now Is Floppy,CD,IDE1
Im in the process of formatting the drive & reinstalling windows as I type.
