In our environment we create a folder called "STORED MAIL" where users create subfolders and store email in their Outlook. My question is- Is there a method I can use to apply protection to the top level folder "STORED MAIL" so it, in effect, acts like a core folder (Inbox, Sent Items, etc..)...

Yes, I do use FTP for larger uploads. But, though useful once in a while, it's not as convenient as the lawyers would like.
