thanks for the response guys. Sorry should have provided more info. I tried assigning to another drive letter (yes we have mapped drives), but the problem is still the same. I am familier with the mapped drive problem and USB drives. It isnt that this time. The drive is formatted and works...

yeah, have checked the power settings, cant find anything that can make a difference. I agree, may be just the laptop cant deliver that power as a desktop would. Maybe lenovos are like that. ta Mike

At the moment on our domain, when users start up their comuputers they are taken to the discalimer and then the windows to enter username and password. How can I force them to have the control alt delete screen at start up? I cant see anything in GPO for this, cheers West

thanks. yeah, it probably is that. Windows setup does have built in support for alot of HBA drivers, but maybe not this one. I suppose ill have to check out that 1st. cheers
