Hi
Does anyone have any good sites or experience of using Oracle on x64 and whether Linux or Windows offers better performance? I am looking at hardware and want find the best solution.

I can't tell you why they are not enabled by default other than to think that it could cause you big problems if they were.
My experience of compression on IIS 5 is that it is very hit and miss. I think if you have a simple web site or application it may work OK. The applications I have did...
Hi
I have applications (ASP & CGI) running on a Windows 2000 Standard Server IIS 5 and they run well. I am having to move the applications to a newer server for support reasons which is running IIS 6. This is a new faster server with Windows 2003 Standard Server SP1 and I was expecting a...
Hi
I am looking into implementing SSL with iSeries Access V5R2 but I am concerned that the encryption process will slow performance. We are using telnet at the moment and I have seen something that quotes the transmission rate drops to 25% of the unencrypted transmission. Is this true?
Can...
Hi
I'm new to java but I am trying to put inside a function the ability to create a prompt with a dropdown box of defined options and then use that to open a link (i.e. select a report name and then open it). This is within another application and is a button link to redirect the user. I...
Hi

Managed to find a version of gzip for Solaris 8 that is large file aware. It is working ok now and is much faster than bzip2. I don't know who would use bzip2 with a large file, it's much too slow.
Hi
I'm looking for compression software for Solaris 8 that is freeware but has reasonably good compression and is fast. I am taking a hot and cold backup of an Oracle database (tar file is about 6GB) and I can't use gzip as the file is too large, bzip2 works but is so slow (about 6 hours for...
Thanks to you both. I installed the package and replaced the link for tar to the new location. I left the old package in place as trying to remove it seemed too much like hard work!

Thanks for the advice, I now understand. Checking my packages I need to update tar to take advantage of this feature. One question, any idea how I remove the current version of tar (loaded as part of Solaris 8) as I cannot see it in the pkginfo. I have tried installing the new...
Hi
I'm trying to compress a tar archive within a script to dsave space but I have run into problems. I can't seem to get it to work even from the command line.
The file I have is approx 5GB and I am using bzip 0.9.0c that was shipped with Solaris 8 2/02. I can seem to compress other files...
Hi
My Oracle DBA has been doing some anaysis on our Sunfirev880 box running Solaris 8 and Oracle 9. We have redo logs on one of the FCAL disks that has a ufs file system, but to improve performance he has suggested changing just this drive (single mount point) to a raw file system. Not being...
Hi
