Update service disabled - Is this a pirated copy of Windows?

I can't say whether the software is pirated. I DO know that the windows update site now requires installation of validation software. I have already validated my LEGAL version of windows xp home through activation at least 4X. What gives with this new crap from microstupid? :( If you're alive...

Posted the above before finished bt error. No, I'm not on a network. It's a single user setup. Aministrator (me) is the only user. What perplexes me is the multiple instances of msiexe.exe. On the the few occasions that an install does work in a timely manner, there is only one msiexe.exe...

Sorry. A typo. It's msiexec.exe. I run virus scans at least once a week, the last being 3 days ago. This has been happening for about 6 months but I don't recall if it was after a new software install, hardware upgrade or what. If you're alive, it's a good day!

    Smart Heap error

A friend has PGA200, a golf sim, installed on XP pro. He had trouble getting it to run properly so he tried compatability mode and receive a smart heap~ mem-bad-pointer error. Anyone know what might cause this? If you're alive, it's a good day!

    Another installer issue

With some programs, suddenly it takes up to 10 min to finish the install including MS patches themselves. When I check the task manager, there 3-4 instamces of MSIE.exe running. Anyone know of this problem? Thanks in advance. :) If you're alive, it's a good day!

Game not running since processor and XP upgrade.

Is this the original High Stakes? If so, it may indeed have a problem with the higher speed of the P4. There are also programs on the net that slow your processor speed to be more compatible woth older programs. Do a Google search or check some of the gaming sites. :) If you're alive, it's a...

    Unwanted explorer window on startup

browan/reghakr: Thanks to both. I had already checked 'run', and startup in system configuration. I hacked the reg like you said, reghacker, and it took care of the problem. I LOVE getting into the registry. x-)

    Unwanted explorer window on startup

Every time windows 98se starts, an explorer window also opens. I don't even use explorer as a file manager. B-( How do I get rid of it? I used to know the answer to this, but can't recall it now. I'm sure it's something simple.

    Non Boot with Win98

Thanks, Ed and Shovel204. It seems there was a short. I'm putting in new standoffs.

    Non Boot with Win98

Ed, I have tried reseating everything previously, which sometimes works, sometimes not. I removed everything but the processor and video card at one point, trying ti isolate the culprit. I've removed ONE piece of hardware at a time. All with the same results. Last night, I gently pulled the MB...

Thanks, I have another processor I can try. But would this happen only when the system is restarted?

Outlook express continually downloading the same emails

I don't mean to be a smart a___, but I'd get another email client. Express is just too easily hacked.
