StatWin is along the right lines, but maybe a bit too feature packed (at least the PRO version). Wish they had a StatWin lite. Looks like they give a free 30 day trial. May give it a try this week.
Any other recommendations?
We give an employee in our home "restricted account" PC access that is supposedly only for basic e-mail and casual web browsing. We think it is being massively abused, but I'd like to be sure before questioning or blocking PC access altogether. The Parental Controls app inherent to Vista isn't...
This will sound really dumb, but I ran into a similar problem a couple of years ago. Somewhere in the settings, I had turned off the little arrow that appears on the shortcut icons. May have been PowerToys or something like that. For whatever reason, turning the arrow off caused any shortcuts...
I searched through some of the recommended threads, but still didn't land on the magic answer. Hard to imagine there's not a tiny freebie app out there to do this. I'll never understand why this functionality isn't built into Windows to start with.
Some of the posted methods would logoff "x...
Wow. Glad to see my thread got some life breathed back into it. I still haven't found a solution (short of turning off other features). Still don't know why in the world Microsoft chose to show folder history in the INTERNET EXPLORER history dropdown. At least make it a setting that can be...
I did a search of the forums, but didn't turn up any relevant threads. I have a Vista PC where I want the user account to be automatically logged off after say 15 minutes of inactivity. Seems like this would be a common requirement that would be built into the OS, but no luck so far finding...
It appears that Indexing may indeed be the problem. What I wonder is if the "halsey" solution from that thread renders the Indexer useless? Like one of the posters said, it is ridiculous for Microsoft to recommend completely disabling one function to fix a problem with another.
And my...
I had tried that to no avail. After reading your message, I D/L Exploder8. Actually, I kind of like how they do the history now. The organization blends in well with my anal personality.
Same problem with the history section, though. It shows a history of all the files I've recently...
Bumping this back up to see of any solutions have been found in the last few months. Is my issue clear enough for people to understand what I'm talking about? I want the dropdown box at the top of my screen to show my history of visited websites, but NOT the list of folders I've recently...
Doesn't seem to be tied to those. FYI, whenever I click Delete/Delete History in the Internet options, the folders disappear along with the typed URL's. I just can't figure out why the system thinks the folders are a part of my Internet browsing history. That makes no sense.
Surely someone...
I know how to clear them. I'm more interested in preventing them from showing up in the first place. Again, I ONLY want to get rid of the folder lists. Internet URL history is fine. Surely there's a setting somewhere that triggers the folder tracking.
The address bar at the top of the page (just to the right of the back and forward arrows). The eggheadcafe link was describing the same problem. When the list drops down, it has my visited websites interspersed with the various folder names I've accessed on my local machine (e.g...
Nope. This is not another question about clearing Explorer history!
In older versions, the history drop down inside Internet Explorer showed ONLY visited website addresses. In the new version, it still shows the addresses, but it also shows all the folders on my C drive that have recently...
Oof. What a mess. Now I can see why you were steering me clear of that option! Looks like my users will just have to get used to the checkboxes. At least I got the filter option figured out. That's farther than I was when I got here this morning. :)
Thanks for the tips.
Check boxes just cause extra button clicks.
Click #1 - Clear "Select All" field
Click #2 - Scroll down to desired value
Click #3 - Put check in proper box
Click #4 - Click OK
With a combobox, it would just be scroll to desired value & click it. Just makes it more user friendly.
