1) I got to admit I have never used that Windows Search tool - Windows Commander's "find files" works fine. And as I think about it, I have actually never used Windows Explorer since Wincommander came to me :-)

If you mean laplink over parallel port, I don't think it can maintain the speed of Firewire (cca 50MBps) since it supports speeds only up to 4Mbps. I'm looking for this mainly because of the speed.
Probably it's because of WinXP has to do much more things on shutdown than for example Win9x/Me (like shutting all services, closing all connections to net, etc.) I have a dual boot to Win98SE + WinXP and as win98 are down in a second, it takes WinXP some 30-40 seconds to shut down. Probably...
