You should be able to bring it in as a graphic, but the margin and space settings shift around a lot. You may need to play with the spacing in the Pharagraph window in Word.
However, for really good looking tables in PageMaker, you should convert to text, using tabs for separation. Then, make a...
If you are more concerned with clear text and usable tables, than with pretty pages, you would be better off to extract the text (RTF from the pdf, or from PageMaker) and clean it up in Word. Then save it as HTML. Good idea to open it in Dreamweaver and run Clean up Word HTML. Then you can paste...
I am assuming perfect bound, from the description. Your page size needs to be as wide as the front plus the back plus the spine. Set crop marks for the outside edge, and non-printing marks (or dotted lines) for your spine width. Don't forget if you have bleed, you need to pull your image out...
In book publishing, we go back and forth all the time. Word is a more powerful word processor. We make revisions in Word, assign styles. We 'pour' the files into PM, and on a good day, our more elaborate Styles in the style sheet (with the same names) hold, and the document only needs a little...
Partial update, for those who were so kind as to give me advice: My boss called my contact's boss. He can open the file on his laptop (hahaha). He will arrange to have the IT staff contact us. The big plus is, I think we will get the job!
Meanwhile, we found the situation at many Universities...
Thanks, Zero! That is superhelpful.
BTW, we did make an Excell version, and she can open that. But it isn't as nice for presentation. (Please don't roll your eyes.)
I think we are on track.
I did ask about properties, already. We have been working on this a few days, and tried some stuff, including that.
As for Read only, shouldn't they still be able to open the file? (I've had problems with files copied from CDs, but I could look at the files. Had to rename them or something to...
I must have ben in a timewarp; saw ann's but not frozedog's reply earlier. Apologies. I am a little overwhelmed by the info, but I think I see where it is going. Will print it and meditate on it, and have more things for my client to try.
Though I am hoping the rentageek solves this for me :-)...
Thank you, ann, that helps, actually.
You also hit on an important issue about doing this from afar, and not knowing how much our client really knows, or is pretending to know. None of our publishing/html clients are local, nor the printers, for that matter. Magic of digital prepress...
Good suggestion about the downloads. Can you briefly explain what Jet is? I'm already sounding like a moron to my client, I'm afraid.
Yes, the extension is .mdb. (Zero- I love your tagline.)
You would normally find me in Mac DTP forums, so, I am a bit out of my element here. My company (publisher) puts content into various forms, and recently poured some course descriptions into Access for a client (to be put into content management system later, but to be viewed/revised in...
Maybe I'm missing something, but it sems to me that, for your internal checks and changes, you could use a PDF of the document. This is relatively easy to set up and have suggestions attached to, highlights, whatever in Acrobat. When the finished pages are approved, one person could easily edit...
Is it possible to put Dreamweaver HTML directly into Pagemaker (or Quark Xpress) and preserve cascading styles? It would save me a lot of time on a project if there is a way to do this. I also need to preserve tables.
I'm afraid I'll need to go by way of Word or Acrobat PDF, but I'll spend...
Font management systems are not a bad thing. I use ATM Deluxe (at work, still on OS 9) and find it preferable to a bloated fonts folder in my System. But I have no clue about that sort of thing on OS X. Anyone tried a font utility in OS X?
