I've loaded up SuSE Linux 7.0 (kernel 2.2.16) on a couple of old e-machines 366i PC's. These use the ATI RageIIc AGP graphics chipset.
All is well in text mode, but running X results in a fragmented screen with various lines over it (right hand side of screen only).
Has anyone else suffered...
Has anyone been involved in Trusted Solaris 8, as opposed to the Standard Environment?
Am I right in thinking that if were to set up two webservers on the same machine, each open to the Internet, that although users would be sending request packets that are unlabelled, the server would detect...
Do you really need the smit.log & smit.script file to be kept? If not, just zero it out by using the > symbol as follows...
> /smit.log
> /smit.script
Also, PDT is OK, but it is meant more for trend analysis over a (period) 30 day period rather than a live monitoring tool.

I wrote a script that used the -s option, logged the error id and then reported how many matching error id's had been reported, along with the description.
I can certainly drag out the script if you wish..?

Do you want to keep the current size of PP's...? If so, you could extend the max number of PP's in the rotvg and extend it to include the new disk - then migratepv.
As skiddy says use the mksysb for the rootvg - or as you only need to backup a few filesystems you could use the backup command rather than the savevg.

Unfortunately tar does not work like that - the file has been saved using relative pathnames. This means that you can restore it back to your system RELATIVE to your current location - so if you are in /home/hsingh when you restored, the file would be restored to...
Usually, for databases you would use RAID-1 (mirroring) rather than RAID-5 (striping+parity). However, space considerations may affect your decision on this.
Hope it helps,

A couple of things here...
1. Are you sure that the tape device is rmt1..?
2. Was the backup done using absolute or relative paths..? This is easily checked by using the tar tvf command / options - take a close look at the file / path; does it start with ./ or just / - you'll need to use the...
660 bytes - is that right, not MB...?
The deciding factor for something this small is where it positioned on the tape - the actual restoration time will be very small, but positioning the tape may take longer.
Hope it helps,
Dave V.
The 43P 150 (7043-150D) uses the GXT300P graphics adapter.
The entry spec 150 model (7043-150C) uses the GXT130P graphics adapter and the higher spec 7043-150E uses the GXT2000P graphics adapter.
Hope it helps.

As an aside, to get into service mode for these machines, reboot and press F5 on the console as it starts listing keyboard, speaker and so on.
