    operation of serial port

I have bought a program which operates at 32 bit. I had to install the printer cable for its output on a serial port. The software maker said that the port may be good for only 16 bit. Right now, program won't run from the port. Just how do I know whether this is the problem and just how...

    CDROMs compatible with Win XP?

ramani, It's the modem that won't work. I have since decided that it might be well to load win98 in a separate drive and install the modem there as well. Will that work?

    modem resources conflict

So Ramani, I should not use COM2 but rather COM4. Is COM4 the port of choice? I did get it to work using COM2, but I will change it.

    CDROMs compatible with Win XP?

I got a friends computer to put a modem in and find that the Cyber Drive won't work with Win XP. Is there an inexpensive unit that will work with XP? This one was only $40.

    plugged in phone line..won't boot?

The problem is solved. I believe that there was a static charge of some kind on the line. I disconnected the line and waited a while. I understand that there is a command in BIOS about a "wakeup" and this could have been set off. If that is possible, what words do I look for in...

    plugged in phone line..won't boot?

I plugged in a phone line so I could load the files for my ISP and the darn computer booted up. It got into about 20 seconds of the boot and then stopped. Now i can't get anything...no power, no nothing. What did i do and how do I fix it?

CD-ROM cycling data when reading CD

I have been trying to load software by way of the CD drive and I am getting a lot of repeating steps in the loading process. It keeps performing the same steps even though the drive is working. I have checked all the cables and they are secure. What could it be? I did eventually get a program...

How do I tell new comp the prod key code?

Swayda, you're pretty much right. I do have a full win 98 and NO code and an upgrade with a code...also 98. I believe the full version came with the purchase of a new system but I don't think I got any product key code with it. The computer was assembled by a local, legitimate computer company...

How do I tell new comp the prod key code?

Edfair, Hope i can explain this right. I used win98 the first time and it would not complete loading without code. I got that far from a disk downloaded from program written to help me load the OS. This enabled me to load virtual drivers to HD so CDROM would read windows. I am not studied...

How do I tell new comp the prod key code?

I finally got my first computer to load a win98 CD which i had but found that the prod key code i had was not good for the CD. I found a upgrade CD with a matching code but now find that I can't get past the requirement that i supply code for the earlier, wrong CD. Just how can I get both to...

    where are the hard-to-find fans?

Ed, I am looking for a website to make the search and purchase. I had found one at one time which was three letters but i can't remember what it was. We have a few good tech stores but they aren't much help in getting the old fans.

    where are the hard-to-find fans?

I am looking to replace some fadng fans on a few older computers. All the computer stores don't (i understand why) carry the fans for such CPU's as the pentium 100 or the AMD K5. I have also tried to find the chipset fan for the ASUS A7V133 mobo. Any suggestions of good places who sell theses?
