Perhaps this is shaping up to be a really stupid question, but I'm new to OS X, so here goes: Is there any way to configure my machine to auto-mount win2k smb volumes at login? I'm running Jaguar. I assumed that dragging the already mounted drives into the login items in the system preferences...
I have a VPN set up on a Win2k server behind my linksys router (all relevant ports are forwarded). Client computers connect without a problem, but are unable to browse or search for any network computers.
Anyway, I just discovered what may be the problem: The client computer is being assigned...
I've only used a linksys router for this purpose, but d-link should work fine too. Just make sure whatever router you get allows TCP/UDP port forwarding.
Your real problem as I see it is that in order to route VPN traffic through your router you need to be able to forward traffic from the VPN...
One in the same. But I'm confused by what you're saying because at one point, this problem did not exist. I have successfully connected to my VPN routing through the linksys box on a number of occasions.
Have you found a solution on your end?
I'm running VPN services on my home server which is running the Win2k Server OS. My setup has been through dozens of changes over the years, most recently the addition of a linksys box. Fortunately for me, VPN access survived all comers...until now.
Sometime around the holidays I became unable...
Thanks for the response. I don't know if I'm more heartened or jealous that firewire is working fine for you. Anyway, to answer your questions, I've used both my current generic VIA firewire card, and a D-Link card that uses a TI chipset. The D-Link card gave me much worse problems when I first...
I'm wondering if anyone has dealt much with firewire hard drives in Windows XP. I'm running a P4 1.6Ghz, a VIA firewire card, and Windows XP service pack 1. I've had access to several different firewire drives lately, both mac and pc formatted (I'm using macdrive 5 for the mac stuff). Anyway, no...
UPDATE: I called Verizon DSL and asked if they could force my system to get a different IP address, and nobody there can figure out how to do that. Going to a static IP isn't an option because it's a whole new expensive process. I really need to fix this now...even if I eventually do get...
Hi Ashley. Thanks so much for all the help. I feel like I'm closer to fixing this now.
I went to the above address and punched in my public IP address -- ie. the one my router gets through DHCP from Verizon DSL. The reverse lookup came up with the following...
Thanks for the help. Here's the response I got from the telnet session...there isn't a web page listed here though. Do you happen to remember where it is?

Thanks again. That's one heck of an endorsement for AOL. In further testing, I've been able to send a mail using mail2web.com. So apparently it's a definate problem with the machine in my house.
Are there any obvious things that coule have gone wrong with the 2000 SMTP service? I probably...
Hi Ash,
Thanks for the quick response. I just went to that site and ran a lookup on my current and previous IP's. Neither are registered there.
Is there any technical explanation for this problem, or am I just somehow blocked?
I've recently discovered a rather odd, but serious problem with my outgoing mail. I have Windows 2000 Server SP3 set up in my home. I'm running the SMTP service, and have been for a while, so that all the computers in the house can use a local SMTP server.
Well, everything works like a charm...
