    how do you add short cuts to the gnome desktop

    If you go into gmc (Gnome Midnight Commander) you can drag shortcuts from a window onto the desktop.

    USB Card Readers

    Hope this isn't obvious, but you could check the vendor's website for updated drivers for Win2k, or see if they have a tech support section. I had to do this for a USB card reader I bought and did have to download new driver, after which it worked OK.

    Under panel properties there is a switch for 12/24 hour time, at least on my version of KDE.
