In AIX, refer to "mktcpip" command, ot "smit mktcpip". Before trying to set up, you should turn off the interface to be used for te IP address related to the hosname: "chdev -l enX -a state=detach" - where X is the number ot the en adapter.
Now you should clean up the /etc/hosts file - see if...
As far as I know, bash is not part of the basic install set so first of all you will need to install it - from IBM Developer Network, Linux affinity packages maybe.
After that you can use the chuser command to change your shell. Also you will need to list bash binary in /etc/shells file to...
oHi,
I am struggling setting up a NIM master to serve hosts on a network that is not directly accessible through the "master"-s default interface. I now that I need to set up network definitions and maybe NIM routes, but got confused.
The master has 2 interfaces:
* en0 holding the address...
Exactly what kind of information would you need? Managing disks and storage devices, or managing LVM (logical volume manager)?
If you put a question, maybe I can answer.
Cheers,

Hi Folks,
I am using AIX audit system in bin mode, having 2 bin files configured, to be dumped into a trace file when they reach their max size (10MB). The trace file is then archived and deleted.
Sometimes the audit system just will not switch between bin files when it reaches the size limit...
Few tips, just shooting blindly:
* what happens when you create the backup into /dev/null ?
* you can run fsck on a running system, in "no modify" mode. This might help to filter out some fs problems.
* if the filename is known, you can use the /etc/exclude.<YOURVG> file to exclude it from...
Hi!
I have a Power5 p520 managed system with 2 LPARs defined on it.
I would need to edit an LPAR configuration to include a CD-ROM, which is connected to an onboard SATA adapter. Since it is not a slot, my first attempt failed:
lshwres -r io -m MyManagedSystem --rsubtype slot
Well, can you...
This is what I have done so far:
I have ONE dual port Eth adapter and TWO hosts (a VIO and an AIX LPAR)
I need to connect the BOTH to TWO different IP networks:
For the VIO:
Outside IP: 20.30.5.159 (/26 network)
Inside IP: 192.168.8.159 (/25 network)
For the AIX LPAR:
Outside...
Thanks again for the quick reply! Well, indeed, I need to configure two different IP address for two different networks. That's why I have set up two adapters. One is for communication with the "world" and one is for internal communication, like GPFS filesystems, database interconnects, and so...
Finally I was able to create the shared ethernet adapter on the VIO server and also I was able to configure it to the needed IP parameters. Now the VIO can communicate well with the world through the SEA. Now I am confused about the next step. I created a pair of virtual adapters for my client...
CA00E1DC is for dynamic console selection. If it appears, try pressing "0", then ENTER. If it does not help, try "1", then ENTER. There used to be a message stating that you should select your console. Sometimes it is swallowed by the Yeti, but you can select the console blindly.
Some more...
Hi!
A would need to create a virtual ethernet adapter to one of my LPAR-s, as we ran out of physical adapters. I have a VIO server in the same managed system, which was used to serve as disk backent to a bunch of LPAR-s. Here comes the part where I got confused:
There is only one Ethernet...
Well, these command are all good if there is the suitable driver installed. If not, you probably will see something like "Other SCSI disk". The commands to handle SAN disks vary well from vendor to vendor and often from mhttp://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1704594odel to model ad well. We...
You should chech your shell settings in the file /etc/security/passwd, or rather in SMIT. The shell should be set there.
The # sign on the beginning of the first line of a script is not a comment It should be followed by an exclamation mark an the name of the binary to pass the file to be...
