I’m doing my first Server 2008 R2 install on a Dell PE R710. I’m running hardware RAID-5 via a PERC 6/i card. Upon first boot up after install, I see a system reserved partition that is labeled as the System partition (as well as Primary), and the C: volume/partition that is also the Primary...
I hoped the MTU would do it...but no dice (and we had already covered the suggestions GrimR offered).
Once connected, the remote server can see the domain i.e we can ping machines in the domain, remote desktop to other domain machines and domain controllers, map drives to the file and print...
We have found that we have a 'partial' AD replication between the domain controller outside of our domain with the controllers inside the domain via a VPN connection.
'Partial' meaning that any changes made in the AD on the outside controller will be picked up by the controllers within the...
We have figured out how to prevent a given group of domain users from launching internet browsers via GPO regardless of what domain machine they use.
However, we would actually like to limit it by domain machine.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

I have a share on a server that has reached EOL. I have been robocopying the share files to an alternate machine. What is the best way (most transparent to users) to allow the share name to remain the same but redirect the users to the new storage space?
Thanks!

We have several GB of used space unaccounted for on one of our volumes on a W2K server. When the dir tool is run with the /Q switch, a line of 3 periods (...) appear where the owner entries should be. Is there a solution for this? Also, instead of dir, I'd love to use the fileowners.pl tool...

Thanks!

A laptop is running Vista Ultimate Edition and is joined to a 2003 domain. All files that were previously on the file server are accessible. However, any new files that are created or modified and saved on the server will not open on the laptop. They give an “Access Denied” error even though...
I noticed when installing remote access clients for BackupExec 9.1 that on one of my domain controllers the System State was listed separately within the file structure and on the other it was listed within the Shadow Copy Components. Both DCs are running WinServer2003 SP2. The only difference...
Our SNORT log just showed the one IP address, and the event log on the target AD machine was identifying the failed login attempts of the offending machine by name and IP.

The source of the attack is a machine from a neighboring department from within our institution, and it has been subsequently removed from the network. I was just curious as to how our info (usernames) could be accessed from such a machine, but your nbstat theory may very well be the answer. Our...
What would be the downside if I did deny the Read Only permissions for accounts and groups?

Occasionally we experience brute force attacks in the form of a non-domain member infected machine getting the list of users from our AD, then trying a dictionary attack on their accounts. How do we shield our AD from the outside so this info (user accounts, etc) cannot be seen?
Thanks!

I have received error messages prompting me to run the DBCC CHECKDB command. I do very little SQL maintenance. How exactly do I run this (i.e. where exactly)?
Thanks!

I have an XP SP2 Pro system blue screening w/unmountable boot volume error. The chkdsk /r can't get passed 69%...it just stops. The fixboot finds a corrupt boot sector and writes a new one, but a subsequent startup corrupts it again.
Ideas?
