Tom,
Why don't you visit http://www.sysinternals.com and have a look at the PSTools suite. A freeware collection of tools, one of which is called pskill. This little utility will allow you to stop any process by name or by process ID. I use it myself, as a scheduled task to run at specific...
A couple of comments:
* Port 139 is your netbios port
* Never allow anonymous access, not to ftp nor webservers
* If you want to secure your system, try using a firewall to mask ports. Don't use the default ports if you don't have to. Every hacker will try port 21 first if they suspect an FTP...
Since you have just installed the OS, I would recommend trying to reinstall. But I wouldn't reinstall Windows Me, because that has to be the crappiest OS that Microsoft has ever created. Try installing a Windows 2000 or XP, or Windows 98 if we're talking about an older IBM machine.

It's much more stable and comes with some very interesting new options, such as advanced scheduling. In my book it's one of the better backup solutions out there.

Try removing the line that says NewMailSeqNum=... in the notes.ini file. This is just a counter, removing it will reset it.

It's most likely a driver issue. Are you using the Windows driver or the Veritas driver for the ADIC? Either way, I'd try to update the driver with the latest release from Veritas. You can get it at http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/247699.htm
There are instructions on that page, so it...
Can you let us know what hardware and software you are using? Which OS, which Service Packs, which version of BE, what type of DLT device, ...?
Also, under the advanced tab in the properties of your backup job, do you have the box "eject media after job completes" ticked? What happens...

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Management\ARPCache
in addition to the entry under the key lavomar1 mentioned.
And be aware that editing the registry can cause serious problems that...
What OS are you running? Which version of BE?
Try running the OFO wizard again and restart the BE services afterwards, that might do the trick.
