Thank you both for your replies.
As a precaution I have copied the Win 7 and XP boot files to a USB stick, which I have just used to reboot my system.
Knowing that I can boot from the USB stick, I can then format C: drive to clear everything out if required.

The file and folder you have referred to reside on drive C:. This does not have an OS on it, so I will format the drive containing Win 7 Beta, and in due course, when Win 7 RC expires, I presume that another format of the Win 7 RC partition plus the deletion of the folder and file...
What is the correct method to remove/wipe Windows 7 Beta for a clean install of Windows 7 RC on a multi-boot system.
At present I have four OS partitions, one of which is Win 7 Beta on drive H:, and three XP home on drives E: F: and G:, the Win 7 boot-loader gives the option of loading Win 7 or...

The Realtek 8139/810x Family fast ethernet NIC drivers are different XP = 5.713.121.2009 (latest version) and Windows 7 = 6.110.530.2008 which most likely confirms your opinion that Windows 7 has better Networking capability.
I must say that I like Windows 7. When I eventually get a new...
I installed Windows 7 on my desktop computer of 2001 vintage. This has an AMD Athlon 1500mhz CPU with 1.5 gigs of memory.
Windows 7 was a clean install on it's own partition, there are two other partitions each with XP SP3 Home.
The Internet connection is via a Realtek PCI card, then thro' a...

These are folders within my Windows 7 partition. When I try to open folder "Documents and Settings" from Windows 7, a popup window with this note appears:
"H:\Documents and Settings\Is not accessible Access denied"
This is a stand alone, single user computer, with myself as...

Over the years I have used Partition Magic to add and remove partitions, sometimes these changes resulted in drive letters moving from one partition to another. As a result of this I have used a partition naming system to alert me to drive letter changes as follows on my multi boot...

Have you got the latest patch for Partition Magic 8? There is a 12MB patch that takes it to 8.01.
I have just used PM 8.01 to partition a 1TB ext. HDD without any problem, this was on XP Home SP3.

My experience for what it is worth regarding a USB2 external HDD is as follows.
In the past week I connected up a "Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus" 1TB Ext HDD to a fairly old Athlon box with 1.5GB of memory running XP SP3.
The USB2 is via a PCI Card like Bronan's, at the same time I attached a good...
