I have to disconnect the modem USB lead from the computer for Win98se to load. Ditto for external hard drive. They are OK if I plug them in after windows has loaded. Is this a common thing and is there a solution that would enable me to leave the devices connected? Thanks

PS the files are listed in the correct order in Win Explorer but that doesn't seem to affect the order in the boxes, such as Save As. I have Win 98se.

Thanks. I shall delete the cookies in the cookies folder that I don't want to keep and Temp internet files, then delete index.dat in DOS.

What then is the purpose of Index.dat? Who would need it if I delete the cookies? The police perhaps? or Microsoft?

What is the purpose of Index.dat in cookies? It is not deletable in Windows. Does it maintain the list of cookies so that they are still accessible, to nullify the effect of me deleting the cookies? Tony
